Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) is a Multi-Speciality National Teaching and Referral Hospital serving the Western half of Kenya (23 counties), Eastern Uganda, Southern Sudan, Northern Tanzania, and Democratic Republic of Congo amongst other areas with a population of over 25 million. CORE MANDATE The functions of the Hospital is enumerated in the Legal Notice No. 78 of 12th June 1998 under State Corporations Act, Cap 457 Laws of Kenya, are: To receive patients on referral from other Hospitals or Institutions within or outside Kenya for specialized Healthcare. To provide facilities for Medical Education for Moi University and Research either directly or through other cooperating health institutions. To provide facilities for education and training in Nursing and other health and allied Institutions. To participate as a National Referral Hospital in National Health Planning. ORGANIZATIONAL VALUES To advance and protect the public image of the Hospital at all times. To be sensitive, discerning and attentive in serving our clients. To observe and maintain high standards at all times. To uphold teamwork at all times. To respect and uphold the rights and dignity of our clients. People living with cancer, diabetes and mental health challenges in western Kenya are getting the care they need thanks to more than $4.3 million USD in medicines provided by Eli Lilly and Company and its affiliates to the Catholic Medical Mission Board. As part of the AMPATH Kenya initiative, Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) in Eldoret, Kenya, has received more than $250 million in Lilly oncology, insulin and mental health medicines over the past two decades. MTRH leads a Medical Camp during Kapkugo Cultural Festival Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) CEO Dr. Philip Kirwa graced the Kapkugo Cultural Festival at Kapsokwony, Bungoma County, on December 6th, 2024. Kapkugo Festival is a vibrant celebration of Kalenjin heritage showcasing Kenya's rich diversity in traditional music, dance, cuisine, and an enriching journey through history and culture. It fosters unity, preservation of traditions, and contributes to local economic growth through cultural tourism. MTRH, the official healthcare service provider at the event, ran a wellness camp besides supporting locals in enrolling into Social Health Authority’s Universal Health Coverage (UHC) Scheme. Over 500 were screened for Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), 641 medical cases, and the registration of 1,736 individuals into SHA. Participants were also sensitized on health seeking behaviour, particularly on prevention/early detection of NCDs and nutritional counselling. Registration was done in collaboration with officials from SHA supported by the Community Health Promoters (CHPs). Dr. Kirwa lauded the collaborative efforts of training and inclusion of the CHPs in SHA registration using the USSD codes as it broadens the reach into communities while increasing enrollment to the program. MTRH is leading registration efforts in the Western Kenya Region. The festival and medical camp has been running from 5th December and will end today (Saturday) 7th December 2024.

MTRH supports the Great Chepsaita Cross Country Run 2024 Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital(MTRH) has dispatched a multi-disciplinary medical team to support the 2024 Great Chepsaita Cross Country Run in Chepsaita- Turbo, Uasin Gishu County. The event dubbed 'Running for Education' preceded by a free medical camp from 2nd December, 2024, culminating into the Cross Country Run today, graced by the Deputy President H.E. Prof. Kithure Kindiki, EGH. MTRH CEO Dr. Philip Kirwa led the Hospital team comprising; clinicians, physiotherapists, nurses, nutritionists, and communications, among others, in covering the race that is taking place courtesy of its Patron Farouk Kibet. Other Government officials participating in the race include the Head of Public Service, Cabinet Secretaries and Principal Secretaries, among other dignitaries. More than ten medical institutions are offering emergency first aid services to the athletes. The race is categorised per age group and gender for seamless coordination.

*MTRH’s 1.5 Tesla MRI Now Operational* MTRH’s new Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Centre, located at the Hospital’s Memorial Grounds, is now operational. The MRI & Cath-Lab Centre is the only one in a public facility in the region providing imaging services for patients seeking 1.5 Tesla MRI services. "Our MRI services harness the power of cutting-edge technology, featuring state-of-the-art MRI machines that provide high-resolution images yet at affordable rates." The facility is run by a highly-skilled and multi-specialty team at hand to offer support and ensure excellent customer experience as well as professional service. The team also supports clients through registration and pre-authorization steps under the Social Health Authority (SHA). Additionally, the Centre houses Interventional Radiology Unit where patient assessments and therapeutic minimally-invasive procedures are undertaken, and upcoming Cardiac Catheterisation (Cath-Lab) where life saving management of coronary artery diseases including cardiac arrest among others will be managed. MTRH remains committed to providing sub-specialized services to all.

PARLIAMENTARY COMMITTEE ON HEALTH VISITS MTRH ON AN INSPECTION TOUR The Parliamentary Committee on Health yesterday October 11, 2024 visited Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) on an Inspection tour. The Committee led by Chair Hon. (Dr.) Robert Pukose began with the tour of critical services reviewing the Social Health Authoriry (SHA) transition; Renal Dialysis services, Oncology & Radiothetapy services, ongoing projects; installation of the 1.5. Tesla MRI machine, newly commissioned Financial Services Centre housing the Social Health Authority- Eldoret Branch, MTRH Staff Pensions and Shamiri Sacco; Spine Theatre, Shoe4Africa Children’s Adella Rome Home, Harry J. Dyer Burns Unit, Julie Ann Perry Peadiatric Cancer Centre and Medical ICU. The Committee took time to review the SHA transition process and witnessed one-on-one sessions as members of the public registered. They lauded MTRH for leading the way in transition to SHA and confirmed that no patient had been denied service. The Committee urged SHA to move with speed in sensitizing the public, registration and ensure the system is seamless. Areas deliberated on during the debriefing meeting at the CEO’s Boardroom, included; critical medical equipment, Human Resources for Health (HRH) and financial allocation. The CEO , Dr. Philip Kirwa, thanked the Committee for the continued support extended to MTRH. The Committee was impressed by the quality services offered at MTRH and the level of cleanliness. Further, they lauded outreaches to counties aimed at disease prevention and early detection. They, however, urged MTRH to scale up the outreaches to all counties within its nucleus. The Parliamentary Committee on Health was received by the MTRH Board and Hospital Management Team.
