FALSE: you have to be a high net worth individual to be an angel investor. As we close out the year, we look back with pride that our small checks (averaging $3,000 per investor) have added up to $1,150,000 invested into 30 great startups. This has helped leverage over $15,000,000 in additional funding for these companies. This is the POWER OF SMALL CHECKS FROM LOCAL INVESTORS. Let's do more of it in 2025! What an unforgettable way to close out the year! 🎉✨ This year, we teamed up with Silicon Xchange to host our annual end-of-year mixer, gathering Africa's most daring founders, innovators, investors, and leading thought leaders pushing tech and entrepreneurship. We came together to spark new connections, reignite old ones, celebrate the successes of 2024, and set our sights on the bold deals and collaborations ahead in 2025. A heartfelt thank you to our portfolio company, African Originals, for being phenomenal hosts (don’t miss visiting their Kraft Room & KOcktail Bar this year!). A massive shoutout to Silicon Xchange and to every attendee who brought their energy and vision by dreaming big and with bold plans to create a lasting impact in 2025! 🌟🔥 Ashley Njoroge Tom Bruno Augustine Wiah Nick Vilelle Abigail Komu - Okonji. This is exciting news indeed, Umulinga. Congratulations to Caitlin and the entire rescue.co team.
🚀 Exciting news for the Kenyan startup rescue.co! They have landed a partnership with Nike to enhance athlete safety in Kenya by offering 24/7 emergency medical and rescue services to all Nike athletes. This partnership has been praised by prominent athletes like Faith Kipyegon and Eliud Kipchoge. I invested in Rescue.co as its mission to provide emergency medical access in Kenya is crucial and has made Kenya safer not only for its clients but for everyone, as all can benefit from faster emergency services. I invested with Nairobi Business Angel Network and Dakar Network Angels (DNA). Angel investing makes a real difference on the continent. I encourage you to support entrepreneurs, who are are tackling the challenges that Africa faces, one startup at a time. Why we invested in Kafresh. Globally, over 50% of fresh fruits and vegetables (FFV) are lost due to issues with storage and distribution. Cold storage solutions are slow to scale and often too expensive for many value chains. In Africa, where food waste is particularly severe and poses a significant threat to food security, KaFresh was established to address the urgent need for accessible food storage and provide a practical and sustainable solution. KaFresh does this by extending the shelf life of produce at room temperature. It utilizes an organic solution for post-harvest food storage, made from plant-derived materials found in all fruits and vegetables. By extending the shelf life of farm produce, KaFresh enhances output and reduces spoilage costs for farmers, addressing a critical need in the continent. At NaiBAN, we proudly support Jean-Paul Nageri Trevor Siu and the rest of the KaFresh team in tackling the pressing global problem of food wastage.
