Centering #community needs in budgeting isn't just strategy; it's a human rights approach to better services. Pathways was thrilled to participate in the Public Finance Conference 2024 (#PFC2024), bringing our expertise and #Budget champions to the dialogue on shaping sustainable public finance in Kenya. Let's continue moving the conversation from budget allocation to prioritization and build solutions together. #ImpactFinance #HumanRights #PFC2024 #JASIRI Bajeti Hub People Powered Peter Ngure Lucky Namunyak Kaesha Njeri Sherry Muthaura Betty Muchiri

PPI held the first #PAMOJA: Climate Democracy Accelerator #Community Forum at the Ngobit Health Center, where community members gathered to discuss ways to address the intersection of #Climate and #Health challenges. The forum introduced PAMOJA's mission to equip communities with #ParticipatoryDemocracy skills, enabling them to advocate for their needs and influence decisions that impact their lives. Together, we explored the importance of cross-sector collaboration in creating more sustainable solutions for climate and health issues. A key part of the forum was a capacity-building session on #SocialAccountability and #Budget Advocacy led by Mr David Muraguri, #Laikipia County's Head of Budgets. The forum revealed a critical challenge: while the community is eager to participate in democratic processes, gaps in civic education hinder meaningful engagement in county processes. Together, we can create lasting change and make a real impact. #PAMOJA #ParticipatoryDemocracy #ClimateAction #HealthAdvocacy #CommunityEngagement #CivicEducation #LaikipiaCounty People Powered Peter Ngure Njeri Sherry Muthaura Betty Muchiri Lucky Namunyak Kaesha Michael Gathoni

Great work! Happy to see #Laikipia progress as our Laipia County CSO #LACCSOF vicechair Peter Wagutu representing! We look forward to now more intense support as we push the #Health budgets more. African Institute for Development Policy (AFIDEP) Partners in Population and Development (PPD)
Civil society organisations (CSOs) trained in SMART advocacy by Partners in Population and Development (PPD) ARO and African Institute for Development Policy (AFIDEP) under the Advance Domestic Health project in 2023 convened today in Nairobi to share progress on implementing their SMART objectives and work plans. The CSOs highlighted that the #SMART advocacy training has significantly enhanced their advocacy skills, enabling them to achieve remarkable milestones. Notable achievements include an increase in Tana River's healthcare budget from Kes 1.9 billion to Kes 2.3 billion, a rise in Laikipia’s health resources from Kes 2.641 billion to Kes 2.715 billion, and a boost in Taita Taveta’s healthcare budget allocation from 21% to 25%. Additionally, Kwale’s 2024/2025 county budget for Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health saw a 32% increase. The CSOs also received valuable feedback from PPD ARO and AFIDEP as they continue implementing their work plans. #HealthFinancing #SRHR Dr. Rose N. Julia Greenland you are spot on. #AYSRH investments, and particularly the big link between education and #SRH must be looked into. having ran school #AYSRH programmes https://lnkd.in/diy7XPgs in the last three years, we have identified the need to have a #crosssectoral approach in ensuring that school sessions incorporate SRH which is not only targeted at students but also parents/guardians and teachers. we look forward to a more robust engagement on School AYSRH programming for meaningful change!
Today, we've spent a lot of time in fancy rooms talking about financing. As we close, I want to take you to a different kind of room. In a church hall in Migori, I met a group of parents in crisis. They had done everything right- they had kept their girls in school, supported their education. But when those girls came back home pregnant, what were they to do? Kenya has made enormous advances in female education, but a teenage girl with a baby has only a 2% chance of being in school or training. These parents had big dreams for their daughters, but now they are facing a horrible realisation that the best option is to get them married to an older man as a second or third wife. Their once bright futures are closing in around them. Education is the biggest destination for domestic giving in Kenya. There are dozens of excellent, sustainably funded, life changing scholarship programmes targeting the brightest students. But only a few of these scholarships are targeted and set up to support these young mothers on the precipice of having their future snatched away return to school. In partnership with the SDGPP, which we celebrate today, we are building a new initiative to compliment the existing Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health Impact bond which already works to prevent these pregnancies. We will work closely with private sector and Philanthropy to create a $15 million, heavily leveraged fund to incentivise these existing funds to invest in young mothers, delivering 10,000 years of high impact education. Please reach out if you can be part of this generation changing vision. ------ My remarks at the SDG Partnership Platform Kenya 10th anniversary event. huge thanks to Arif Neky for the many years of partnership and for the platform.

We're thrilled to kick off the #PAMOJA- Climate Democracy Accelerator Project, focused on bringing local communities into the decision-making process for #climate and health solutions. Through a #participatorydemocracy approach, we aim to empower communities to advocate for their unique needs. Today, supported by People Powered, we hosted our first inception meeting, which included leaders from the #LaikipiaCounty Departments of #Health, #Water, #PublicParticipation, and #EconomicPlanning and #community representatives from Ngobit who are championing health and water initiatives. Together, we’re working toward collaborative, multisectoral strategies that address climate and health challenges head-on. #Pamoja for Sustainable Solutions.
