This year, the GDF highlighted the power of narratives and how storytelling techniques can be part of the toolbox for #landdegradationneutrality (LDN). 11 intersectoral teams from 10 countries participated in storytelling sessions, narrating the impacts of land degradation on communities and biodiversities and showcasing solutions through Earth observation tools and geospatial data. The GDF aimed at creating a sustainable exchange of experiences among LDN teams to promote sustainable land use practices. This also involved capacity development trainings of tools like GEE Apps, KoBo Toolbox, Trends.Earth and Digital Earth Africa. The trainings were conducted in various languages, from English, Spanish and French. It was truly an honor for our team to meet Patricia kombo today at the sidelines of COP16 in Riyadh. Our discussions delved deeply into critical issues that align with our mission, land degradation neutrality, food security, and the transformative power of sustainability. Patricia’s inspiring story of resilience and her impactful work with women in advancing sustainable practices resonated deeply with us. Her dedication to empowering women and integrating them into environmental restoration efforts highlighted the essential role of gender inclusion in addressing global challenges. As a team, we explored the vital connections between sustainable land management and #foodsecurity, emphasizing the urgent need to restore degraded lands to safeguard agricultural productivity and community livelihoods. Patricia shared powerful insights from her grassroots work, showcasing how empowering women with knowledge and tools to implement sustainable practices has led to remarkable transformations in environmental restoration and family economic empowerment. Our conversation also focused on building synergies to amplify our collective impact. We discussed promoting climate-smart agricultural practices, enhancing soil health, and scaling innovative approaches to achieve land degradation neutrality. Together, we envisioned a future where communities, especially women, thrive as stewards of the land, ensuring it remains fertile and capable of feeding future generations. Meeting Patricia was not only inspiring but also reaffirmed our commitment as a team to champion sustainability, empower communities, and protect our shared future. This encounter has strengthened our resolve to work collaboratively in advancing policies and practices that prioritize sustainable land use, gender equity, and environmental stewardship.
