According to the UNESCO Global Education Monitoring (GEM) Report of 2024, women constitute only 35% of students graduating from STEM fields in higher education globally. This disparity underscores the importance of inspiring and empowering girls to explore opportunities in science and technology. To commemorate the International Day of Women and Girls in Science on February 11th, 2025 we partnered with Women In Engineering Kenyatta University to conduct motivational talks at  2 schools under Poa's Community Schools Connectivity Program engaging 75 young girls in junior secondary. 5 years ago, Data protection was something that was new to our vocabulary, now compliance has become the norm. Mercy Liani Widava, Danson Wainaina and I represented poa! internet as the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner celebrated 5 years since the enactment of the #DataProtectionAct. The key take away was that though we have made strides, there is still more to be done to ensure compliance and oversight and this can only be achieved through continuous collaboration, capacity building and sharing of best practices. Compliance is also a collective responsibility, therefore everyone within an organisation bears the responsibility of ensuring compliance. #complianceiskey #datagovernance #dataprivacy

As part of World Youth Skills Day, we engaged with 20 enthusiastic learners at Golf View Academy, Kiambu, which is one of the schools that is part of Poa's Community Schools program, where we provide schools with internet connectivity and digital tools to enhance learning. We shared valuable lessons on how to safely use the Internet and tips on how to leverage the internet for improved learning.
