What makes you a leader worth following? Your position on the org chart doesn't make you a leader. Your title doesn't make you a leader. Leadership has nothing to do with your social status, your bank account, or where you reside. It's all about one life inspiring and motivating another to become the very best version of themselves. As John Quincy Adams puts it, "if your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more, and become more, you are a leader." Leaders empower and uplift those around them. Inspire your team with our Amazon bestseller, "Unlock the Hidden Leader: Become The Leader You Were Destined To Be." This book has already transformed countless leaders; now it's your turn. Leaders who recognize the value of team disagreement create a culture that thrives on diversity of thought, innovation, and effective decision-making. We need to develop safe work cultures that honor differences of opinion. No one will ever have all of the correct answers, and it’s only through conversation, debate, and, yes, even argument that those real ideas come out and better decisions are made. By encouraging your team to offer a different point of view, leaders can create an environment where individuals feel safe expressing their opinions and challenging assumptions, which in turn helps your team contribute to the growth and success of your organization. What does it mean to be a leader who leads from a place of humble privilege vs. a place of perceived right? Many leaders seem to forget that leading others should be held in reverence more than anything else. Being the leader means that you have been placed in a position to serve others. Too often, I have seen leaders duck and cover, throw their people under the bus, throw their positional weight around, and instead of leading from a place of service, lead from a place of ego when things get rough. You are privileged to be in a position where you can direct, shape, and focus people’s potential to a specific result. When you are given the responsibility to lead, you are given an awesome opportunity to influence the lives of many people positively, a responsibility you should never take for granted. As a leader, it's crucial to prioritize active listening. When you make a conscious effort to listen to your team, you show that you value their input and ideas. This not only boosts their confidence and morale, but it also fosters a culture of open communication and trust. By actively listening, you can gain a better understanding of your team's needs, concerns, and goals, and make more informed decisions that benefit the group as a whole. So, no matter how busy you may be, remember that taking the time to listen attentively is the ultimate sign of respect any leader can give to their team. Are you a leader of good character? A leader of good character is someone whose behavior can be predicted in their absence; in other words, they stay true to their authentic self by never compromising on their values. Real leadership has always been built on a strong character. It's not just a role one plays; it is a life one leads, whether you are at home or the office. How many CEOs have resigned because of their questionable character and behavior? They destroy their reputation in a matter of seconds. This is why leaders of good character inspire employees to think and act in ways that contribute to their organization and society's well-being. It's not about an image one portrays for the public; it's about being your real, authentic self while living your life as an example for people to follow. When you are in a leadership position, you have been given a great privilege. As such, you must always remember that your actions and decisions have the potential to influence not only the trajectory of people's careers but also their entire lives. As a leader, you have the ability to inspire and motivate your team, set an example for how work should be done, and guide individuals toward success. However, with this power comes great responsibility. It is crucial that you lead with fairness, empathy, and integrity, keeping in mind the impact of your leadership on those around you. Being a good leader is not just about achieving goals and hitting targets; it is about creating a positive and supportive environment where everyone can thrive. • True. But we should keep in mind that when we listen , we should really listen to understand not just for the sake of responding.

When you speak in such a way, others love to listen to you and listen in such a way that others love talking to you. It shows you value your team by actively listening to their concerns, feedback or suggestions. I sometimes wonder why companies ask their employees for their feedback when, time and time again, they never listen to what their employees are saying. I can remember during many meetings I attended, the routine was always the same coming to the end of the meetings, “anyone have any suggestions, feedback or questions for the management team?” the CEO always asked. So many people always voice their concerns or offer some form of suggestion. Still, nothing came from any of it; I can distinctly remember watching the managers at the front table when people were talking, and no one seemed remotely interested in anything anyone was saying. It was so glaring and so disrespectful. But you know what was ironic? I’ve heard some of these same managers complain that “my employees won’t speak up” and label them as bad or uncaring employees, but these same “leaders” should look in the mirror and ask themselves how their people ended up that way. When someone is sharing their ideas and feedback, and they are not taken seriously, at some point, that person will become very quiet, and the worst thing for any organization is when their most passionate employees become quiet.
