Save the Date! Asia GDC Forum 2025 On April 4, 2025, Asia Centre, in collaboration with the Global Democracy Coalition, will convene the Asia GDC Forum 2025 in Bangkok, Thailand. This pivotal gathering will tackle pressing issues such as youth disenfranchisement, electoral integrity, and barriers to youth political participation, aiming to develop actionable strategies for engaging young people in electoral processes and strengthening democracy across the region. With a mix of panels, group discussions, and plenary sessions, the forum will explore challenges like under representation in legislatures and political persecution while showcasing global best practices for youth empowerment and political inclusion. Together, participants will develop a youth-centered action plan for enhancing electoral participation and fostering democratic renewal in Asia. This forum is not just a discussion, it’s an action-oriented platform to ensure the future of democracy is inclusive, resilient, and led by the voices of young people. As young people continue to fight for their ability to participate in politics, please join us for the upcoming global panel, “Breaking Barriers - Challenges and Solutions for Youth Participation” during the #GDCAfrica Forum hosted by The Youth Cafe, CAHED KENYA, Citizen Voice and Actions (CVA-Rwanda), Afrobarometer, SOMWA, and the Global Democracy Coalition on May 28, 2025 in Nairobi, Kenya. This panel will delve into the systemic, economic, and social obstacles that restrict young people’s involvement in politics. Experts will explore how innovations in education, technology, and intergenerational collaboration can transform these barriers into pathways for empowerment and lasting democratic renewal. We are excited to highlight female advocate at the High Court of Kenya, Zaina Kombo, who will be one of the panelists. Zaina’s current work entails campaigning for equality and fighting discrimination especially for vulnerable groups including young people and empowering them to hold their leaders accountable for human rights violations. She also works with anti discrimination, and social and legal advocacy. Congratulations to the Newly Elected Chairperson of the African Union! As a youth-led organization, Aim-Higher Youth Cooperative - Zambia is proud to see the African Union advancing democratic processes and strengthening leadership across the continent. This marks another milestone in shaping Africa’s future through inclusive governance and youth participation. Through our work, we were honored to engage with the African Union by making submissions to the former Chairperson and Heads of State on The Ignite African Projects. This initiative, implemented in partnership with The Youth Cafe aimed to advance youth participation in democratic processes, leadership development, and decision-making. We are also proud to see our comrade, Ambassador Mohamed A. Omar, standing alongside the newly elected Chairperson of the African Union. 🌍 This moment is a testament to the power of connections, shared visions, and collective action. Leadership is about connection, influence, and impact, and this occasion reinforces the importance of building strong networks. This pivotal gathering will bring together civil society leaders, policymakers, youth activists, and democracy advocates to explore innovative approaches to strengthening participatory democracy across the region. Over two days, participants will engage in dynamic panel discussions, hands-on workshops, and site visits showcasing local democratic innovations. The agenda will spotlight critical themes, including citizen engagement, youth political participation, and collaborative governance. Attendees will examine barriers to youth involvement in politics, co-create solutions for inclusive governance, and exchange best practices for building democratic resilience.
