1 day to go! The Urgent Action Sister Funds have created two spaces dedicated to offering rest and connection avenues for #AWIDForum2024 participants to engage and interact during the forum. From collaborative political conversations around feminist collective care, to guided and self-led wellbeing-centred practices, we encourage participants to center healing and care in their lives and activism as a political stance. By placing #CareAtTheCenter we uplift healing as a liberatory practice.

The Rest & Resist Nest is almost here—just 2 days to go! The Urgent Action Sister Funds are excited to host the Rest & Resist Nest from 2 to 5 December. During this time,  #AWIDForum2024participants can freely stop by to take a pause, rest and recoup their energies as they enjoy refreshments and snacks. To us, healing is a liberatory practice, care is a strategy of resistance, and solidarity is the foundation of justice. So, we are happy to place #CareAtTheCenter by offering a space for embodied care practice amidst the marvellous feminist frenzy at AWID.

Gender-based violence (GBV) remains a pervasive crisis, disproportionately affecting African womn, and upholding womn’s rights over their bodies requires a long-term commitment. The intersection of GBV and SRH, worsened by traditional practices and anti-gender ideologies, creates a challenging landscape for WHRDs.   This year, through our Rapid Response Grantmaking (RRG) model, we have equipped womn and feminist movements with critical resources to resist systemic violence across 44 countries.  27% of the grants were channelled toward SGBV and harmful practices prevention with 131 strategic GBV grants. 45% of our grants supported marginalised groups of womn with disabilities, LBTQI womn, and menstrual justice advocates addressing critical gaps in policies and advancing justice.   As we UNiTE for the 16 days of activism against gender-based violence, we spotlight the Coalition on Violence Against Women - COVAW KENYA, one of our grantee partners transforming lives through advocacy, legal frameworks, and community-led prevention strategies in Kenya. #16DaysOfActivism #UniteToEndViolenceAgainstWomn #EndGBV   

Protracted crises disproportionately impact womn, yet their voices are often sidelined, and they bear the brunt of gender-based violence. As we commence the 16 days of activism against gender-based violence campaign, we spotlight Urgent Action Fund-Africa’s feminist crisis response that goes beyond funding. It is about reshaping structural systems that perpetuate gender-based violence by centering feminist movements on building, healing, and care. Join us tomorrow as we officially launch the "𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐖𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐟𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐬; 𝐖𝐞 𝐀𝐫𝐞 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐃𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞”", a co-created research between the 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐖𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐔𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐚 (NOWUDU) and Urgent Action Fund-Africa with support from Ford Foundation.  The research builds on our Disability Justice framework that recognises the protection and care needs of African Womn Human Rights Defenders (AWHRDs) with disabilities. Ndana has built bridges between civil society and social justice funders for over two decades to address gender, racial, socio-political, economic, environmental, and climate injustices. A staunch feminist voice for enhanced women’s rights investments, Ndana has leveraged more than USD200 million towards strengthening African feminist and women’s rights movements. She is a published writer and public speaker on Pan-African and Feminist Philanthropies, African Women’s Leadership, and the Power of Social Movements in Africa.
