Dealing with microaggressions in the workplace is tough. Many of you face them, but we reckon that as Black women, we probably face them quite a bit more. They are often subtle yet painful. Let's address them, support each other, and strive for a more inclusive work environment. Share your experiences and let's make a change together. #WorkplaceInclusion #Microaggressions #BlackExcellence #CareerAdvice #Inspiration #Mentoring #CareerCoach #DEI #ExecutiveCoaching #Mindfulness #Authenticity #Africannarratives

Starting Strong in a New Role: Lessons from "The First 90 Days" New beginnings are exciting—but let’s be honest, they can also be overwhelming. Whether you're transitioning into a new role or starting a new job, have you ever found yourself asking: "Where do I even begin?" From my experience, I’d get caught up in the whirlwind: settling in, understanding my role, learning office dynamics, figuring out how I can contribute, and—oh yes—getting to know the politics (it’s everywhere, isn’t it?). The result? I’d waste a lot of time, feel lost, and perform below my potential. After my last role ended, I decided it was time to break the cycle. I took some time off sending applications to reflect on my experiences. I sought honest feedback from my former supervisor (huge thanks to Benedict Namatiti for the insights), and took a step back to really think about how I could improve. That’s when I stumbled upon a fantastic podcast by WeThreeQueensofAfrica where they recommended a gem of a resource: **The First 90 Days** by Michael D. Watkins. The book changed my perspective on how to approach transitions. 💡 **Key takeaway?** "The first three months in a new role can make or break your success. They’re a period of heightened visibility, intense scrutiny, and rapid opinion formation. But they’re also an opportunity to create momentum that propels you forward." The book mentions few traps many of us fall into during career transitions (guilty as charged!): 1️⃣ Sticking to what worked in your previous role instead of adapting to the new one. 2️⃣ Trying to make your mark too quickly without taking the time to learn. 3️⃣ Setting unrealistic expectations or doing too much at once. 4️⃣ Focusing only on technical learning, ignoring culture and relationships. The book provides actionable steps to avoid these pitfalls, such as: ☑️ Prepare yourself - by letting go of old habits that may not serve you in this new role. ☑️ Secure early wins - to build credibility and momentum. ☑️ Negotiate success - with clear goals and expectations. ☑️ Accelerate your learning - about not just the organization but its people and culture. I used these principles to map out a plan before applying for new roles and starting my new chapter, and today being the second day at my new job, I can already feel the difference. So, let me ask you: How do you navigate new beginnings? Have you ever fallen into these traps or seen others do so? What’s your biggest tip for thriving during transitions? Let’s share and learn from each other—drop your thoughts in the comments! #CareerGrowth #NewBeginnings #TheFirst90Days #ProfessionalDevelopment #CareerTransitions #WorkplaceTips #PersonalGrowth #SuccessStrategies #NewJobJourney #CareerReflection

Thanks to Mary Waweru for bringing up this discussion about African food! #culture #africannarratives #africanfood #foodsecurity. Africa No Filter thanks for your support without which we couldn’t have scaled this podcast! Micheline Ntiru Achieng Butler Dr Musonda Mumba

📕 Perpetuating Cultural and Racial Biases Based on Food I would like for us to have an honest discussion about how we can avoid stereotyping, generalising and depicting people as inferior simply based on what they eat. To show the diversity and existence of Indigenous African women, I am on a mission to normalise us representing ourselves in our stories, cultures, diversity and brilliance, not forgetting our beauty and femininity which white supremacy has worked tirelessly to label as masculine and ugly. The three women in the video are Achieng Butler (🇰🇪 Kenyan), Micheline Ntiru (🇺🇬 Ugandan - 🇷🇼 Rwandan) and Dr Musonda Mumba ( 🇿🇲 Zambian - 🇿🇦 South African). They have all lived and worked abroad and now based in Kenya where they also host a YouTube and podcast show titled 'We Three Queens of Africa'. As a trainer and consultant who designs courses and workshops that meet at the intersection of gender, race and culture, I speak about how food is used to stereotype and exclude people from the Global South which perpetuates cultural and racial biases. This is so prevalent that people from the Global South do it amongst ourselves! Let us take the grass-cutter as an example. This animal is a common delicacy in some communities in West African and Caribbean nations including Nigeria, Côte d'Ivoire, Trinidad and Tobago, etc. Many people in other parts of the world would find this consumption to be strange and uncivilised. Ironically, the communities drawing these culinary boundaries would also likely find no issue in their own communities consuming pork, raw beef, blood and other subjectively strange things. As a pet mum of a furry animal, while it is uncomfortable to watch a video of a grass-cutter being prepared for a meal and sometimes feel guilty about eating animals, I am also open-minded, mature and exposed enough to different cultures to be comfortable with difference. I cannot judge people while eating beef, chicken and pork (rarely). Let us all learn to respect each other's choices while seeing everyone's humanity and our own hypocrisies where necessary. I would also encourage people to stop speaking about our countries and cultures as a monolith. We are not one culture or story! 📍 To learn more and hire me visit: www.crestimpact.com Credit: WeThreeQueensofAfrica #Food #Culture #Stereotypes #GlobalDiversityEquityInclusion
