After 3 days of deliberations at Moi University, Eldoret, the Environment and Land Court's Climate Justice Conference wrapped up with a bold call for a “Whole-of-Society Approach” to tackle climate justice. Speaking during the opening ceremony, Chief Justice Martha Koome said that "it is incumbent upon courts to chart a path of justice that safeguards both humanity and the planet" as the world grapples with the effects of climate change--including devastating droughts, unprecedented floods and dwindling natural resources. The Judiciary called for collaboration among all stakeholders to deliver climate justice through judicial innovation, policy reform and community action. Justice Smokin Wanjala presided over the closing ceremony on behalf of Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu. Jacqueline Kimeu, our Climate Change & Energy Coordinator, highlighted the crucial role of non-state actors in working alongside the Environment and Land Court to effectively address the challenges posed by climate change and natural resource management, especially in the carbon market sector. WWF-Kenya is proud to have supported this impactful event, uniting judges, policymakers, students, and communities to champion sustainable development.

🌍 Building Alliances for a Thriving World 🌿 The CARE-WWF Alliance is more than just a collaboration between organizations—it's a bond among people worldwide, united by the vision of a future where both people and nature thrive. 🌱💙 Recently, we had the privilege of spending time with our incredible colleagues from CARE and WWF in #Kenya. Together, we shared insights, strategized for impact, and strengthened partnerships with women leaders and community allies in Kajiado County as part of our Sowing Change program focused supporting women climate leaders. Moments like these remind us of the power of collective action. By coming together, we amplify the voices of women, foster resilience, and create pathways for sustainable, lasting change. 📸 Pictured here are Mwende Kusewa, Assistant Country Director for and Jackson Kiplagat, Head of Conservation Programs for WWF-Kenya, exemplifying the spirit of collaboration that drives the Alliance forward. #CAREWWFAlliance #PeopleAndNature #SowingChange #CollaborationForGood #Sustainability #WomenLeadership #GlobalImpact Faith Tanui Judy Kosgei - Ekwam Emmanuel Brian Muriungi Pauline Njathi Cheryl Margoluis

Supporting Community Empowerment at the 2024 Lamu Cultural Festival WWF-Kenya has granted Ksh 2,000,000 to women and youth groups affiliated with Community Forest Associations (CFAs) and Village Savings and Loans Associations (VSLAs) in Lamu. These funds will empower the groups to provide indigenous and Swahili food catering services during the 2024 Lamu Cultural Festival, a three-day event beginning on 28th-30th November. This initiative offers them an opportunity to generate income whilst showcasing Lamu's rich culinary heritage. This support has been made possible through funding from the Triple Benefit, Lamu Mangrove Conservation, and Building Community Resilience through Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) projects. By linking conservation with livelihoods, WWF-Kenya continues to ensure that local communities directly benefit from sustainable practices. This initiative also strengthens community ownership of conservation efforts in the region. The Lamu Cultural Festival, organized by Lamu County, celebrates the region's unique culture, promotes ecotourism, and champions sustainable management of natural resources. Through this sponsorship, WWF-Kenya is reaffirming our commitment to connecting conservation, cultural preservation, and community development.

This week, our leaders face a choice about the future of our planet. To end the plastic crisis and protect future generations—or not.  This week governments will gather in Busan, Republic of Korea, for the final round of negotiations on a Global Plastic Pollution Treaty.  Decisions made in these negotiations will determine the future for generations to come.  Join us in calling for a strong treaty to protect our future.  #BanIt #StopPlasticPollution #INC5
