December 1 marks the National Day of 🇷🇴Romania! So let's cook one of the country's national dishes, Sarmale (Romanian Cabbage Rolls). 🥬Prepare the Cabbage: Soak sour cabbage in cold water overnight or rinse well if short on time. Remove cores and cut large leaves in half. Cook the Filling: Sauté onions in oil until soft, add rice, and cook for a minute. Mix in a bowl with ground pork, parsley, dill, salt, pepper, and the onion-rice mixture. 🥘Preheat oven to 191°C. Fill each cabbage leaf with ¼ cup meat mixture, roll, and tuck ends. Layer in Oven: Chop leftover cabbage and spread on the bottom. Add a layer of rolls, top with bacon, and repeat, finishing with chopped cabbage and ground pepper. Pour tomato juice over rolls and add water to cover. Cover and bake for 2 hours, then uncover and bake 1–1.5 hours. 😋Enjoy the Sarmale with sour cream!
