🔋 Beyond Plastic: Tackling the Challenge of E-Waste When we think of #waste, we often focus on #plastic, but waste encompasses a wide variety of materials, including #E_waste 🔌— discarded electronic devices such as phones, computers, and appliances. E-waste is one of the fastest-growing waste streams globally, containing #hazardous substances that can harm the #environment and human #health when improperly handled. ReFuse explored how structured informal markets in #Bidibidi and #Yumbe refugee settlements in #Uganda are diverting #Ewaste, alongside other materials, to local industries. 🌍 International Cooperation: Standing Together in Times of Crisis 🌍 In times of #crisis, #international and local #cooperation is essential to addressing urgent needs and #recovery. Here are 3 examples of international #NGO s' response to the crisis in #Lebanon: 1️⃣ ICU In collaboration with MoSA Lebanon, Agenzia Italiana per la Cooperazione allo Sviluppo, and European Union, ICU has been distributing hygiene kits, children’s and adult diapers, and other necessities to families in need in areas such as Byblos, Jounieh, and Sin el Fil. 2️⃣ Oxfam in Lebanon In partnership with Alawite Islamic Charity Association (AICA), Oxfam has prepared and delivered meals, as well as clean water, hygiene kits, emergency cash assistance, and protection services across Beirut, Mount Lebanon, Tripoli and South and North Lebanon. 3️⃣ Danish Refugee Council / Dansk Flygtningehjælp In North Lebanon, DRC has been distributing blankets, mattresses, and hygiene kits to displaced families while also providing critical support at the Lebanese-Syrian border, including water distribution. 🌎 DAY 2 - Arab SMEs Summit Doha - Rowad 2024 || This morning, we had the pleasure of participating in the side event “Unlocking the Potential of the Circular Economy for Arab Mediterranean SMEs” organised by Interreg NEXT MED Programme. Our colleague Giorgio Mosangini, Team Leader of the Green Entrepreneurship Area, highlighted key insights on opportunities for innovation and competitive advantages, as well as the challenges and strategies needed to implement circular practices. 🎯 Key Challenges for Eco-Innovation and Circular Economy Business Models: 👉 Limited access to funding. 👉 Restricted access to eco-innovative technology and skills. 👉 Green markets remain underdeveloped. 👉 Enabling policies are still nascent. 🚀 Emerging Opportunities: 👉 The rise of sustainable business models. 👉 Growing environmental awareness and emerging green markets, with new opportunities for export. 👉 Circular and eco-innovative business models increase resilience and reduce costs. 👉 Circular economy is becoming a political priority. 🌱 We were deeply inspired by the insights shared by four remarkable Switchers, who offered their perspectives on the key opportunities and challenges faced by MSMEs in the Arab Mediterranean context.
