  • 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐓𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐦 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒 𝐆𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐛𝐨𝐧 𝐍𝐞𝐮𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐥! ‘𝐒𝐋𝐓𝐃𝐀 𝐓𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐦 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒’, organized recently by 𝐒𝐫𝐢 𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐤𝐚 𝐓𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐦 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 (𝐒𝐋𝐓𝐃𝐀) has achieved carbon neutrality by offsetting its verified emissions of 𝟐𝟑.𝟒𝟒𝟐 𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐛𝐨𝐧 𝐃𝐢𝐨𝐱𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐄𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐭 through the voluntary cancellation of equivalent amount of Certified Emission Reductions (CERs) from the project: Rice Husk-Based Cogeneration project (9484) registered under Clean Development Mechanism (CDM). Control Union coordinated with SLTDA in measuring, managing, and verifying the event's greenhouse gas emissions in accordance with the internationally recognized standard ISO 14067:2018. Then the event was declared carbon-conscious and neutral, aligning with the standard ISO 14068-1:2023. Our heartfelt congratulations to all the awardees! The workshop was organized as a low carbon event and was held at one of the best-case examples for circularity, The Barnhouse - Sri Lanka. 100% upcycled materials were used in construction of this premises. Single use plastics were eliminated. And they served number of plant-based delicacies made with locally sourced ingredients. Also, it was a place conveniently located away from the busy city traffic to further minimize the travel related emission of the participants. LCA is a tool which you can use to quantify the environmental impact of a product or a service throughout its life cycle from raw material acquisition to the end-of-life/ disposal. Finally, 𝐏𝐢𝐲𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐢 𝐉𝐚𝐲𝐚𝐬𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐚, who is a Lead LCA Verifier/ Auditor elaborated on 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐋𝐂𝐀 𝐌𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐢𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐇𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐂𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐀𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐲𝐬𝐢𝐬. The workshop was organized as a low carbon event and was held at one of the best-case examples for circularity, The Barnhouse - Sri Lanka. 100% upcycled materials were used in construction of this premises. Single use plastics were eliminated. And they served number of plant-based delicacies made with locally sourced ingredients. Also, it was a place conveniently located away from the busy city traffic to further minimize the travel related emission of the participants. LCA is a tool which you can use to quantify the environmental impact of a product or a service throughout its life cycle from raw material acquisition to the end-of-life/ disposal.
