Sustainability is at the core of Trischel Fabric's operations, reflecting a deep commitment to minimizing the environmental impact of the textile industry.   • Effective water management is essential for ensuring water security, minimizing waste, and advancing sustainable development. As water scarcity intensifies, industries must optimize water use, reduce pollution, and enhance efficiency through audits, conservation measures, and footprint assessments. Network Sri Lanka, in collaboration with the National Cleaner Production Centre Sri Lanka (NCPC), facilitated a workshop on Water Auditing and Water Footprint Assessment on 20th February 2025 at The Hub, Hirdaramani. The workshop aimed to equip participants with a comprehensive understanding of water auditing and footprint assessment, while strengthening industry awareness on regulatory compliance, efficiency improvements, and sustainability best practices.   • We are delighted to welcome Colombo West International Terminal (CWIT) to the UN Global Compact Network Sri Lanka. Colombo West International Terminal (CWIT) is a state-of-the-art deep-water container terminal strategically located in the Port of Colombo, Sri Lanka. CWIT is equipped with cutting-edge infrastructure to handle the largest container vessels. The terminal features fully automated CRMGs (Cantilever Rail Mounted Gantry Cranes) for efficient yard operations and automated RMQCs (Rail Mounted Quay Cranes) to optimize vessel handling. The terminal’s design ensures seamless cargo movement, supported by advanced digital systems and a focus on sustainability.   • UN Global Compact Network Sri Lanka hosted a Masterclass on "Taking Your Supply Chain to the Next Level with Circularity," facilitated by Dr Mayuri Wijayasundara, Founder & CEO of Anvarta, on 14 February 2025 at Ruby Hall, BMICH. Dr. Wijayasundara, an expert in low-carbon and circular economy transitions, has over 20 years of experience in industry transformation, research, and advisory roles. She has led programmes in the Asia Pacific and served as a tenured University academic. Recently engaged as a Circular Economy Expert at UN Habitat, she now advises through her company, Anvarta. Dr. Wijayasundara holds a PhD from the University of Melbourne and is a chartered management accountant of CIMA, UK. Network Sri Lanka extends our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Wijayasundara and Anvarta for their exceptional contribution. The insights and expertise shared enhanced the learning experience, and we appreciate the effort put into making the Masterclass impactful and enriching.   • On 13 February 2025, Network Sri Lanka convened its 21st collaborative Gender & Diversity and Business & Human Rights Working Group meeting, hosted by Jetwing Travels at Jetwing Colombo Seven. This session brought together business leaders and sustainability practitioners to advance discussions on fostering inclusive, equitable, and responsible workplaces. In collaboration with the SCOPE programme—co-financed by the European Union and the German Federal Foreign Office and implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH Sri Lanka—the meeting featured a facilitated session on ‘Disability Inclusion in the Workplace’ by Mr. Jose Kurian, a disability expert from Humanity & Inclusion. The session provided valuable insights into creating accessible work environments and embedding disability inclusion into business strategies. Reinforcing this commitment, Jetwing Travels, Brandix, and Hirdaramani Group shared progress updates on their disability inclusion initiatives, showcasing tangible steps towards building workplaces that support diverse talent.
