2024 is drawing to a close and what was forecast a year ago has become fact: Europe has achieved full recovery of inbound tourism compared to pre-pandemic levels. While worries related to conflicts, travel disruptions and overcrowding may impact travel decisions in 2025 more than previously, travel remains a priority for most people in Europe. There is a strong demand for leisure stays over the Christmas and New Year period in Luxembourg City. Current hotel searches in Luxembourg for future stays are 14% higher than in 2023, and flight bookings are 10% above 2023. Culture and heritage, nature and outdoors and wellness are the holiday types currently yielding higher interest than last year among those considering Luxembourg. The Luxembourg for Tourism GIE Public Relations & International Press Team represented by Brigitte Goergen and Pit Gelz took part in the Antor Media Workshop Netherlands in Amsterdam last week. A total of 23 international tourism boards presented their country's highlights to over 100 journalists, bloggers and influencers from all over The Netherlands. The #ANTOR workshop provided again an excellent platform and a great opportunity to engage and meet a large number and diverse range of travel influencers and journalists in person. "The media showed a strong interest in destination Luxembourg. While some already know about our outdoors offer, we highlighted our urban life in a green city, culinary, culture, hiking and biking experiences!. As a country of small distances, everything is within easy each, and visitors greatly value exploring with the free public transport. Many showed a great interest in (re)discovering Luxembourg and we look forward to some return visitors and new collaborations in 2025." The #VisitLuxembourg Challenges are up for an X Award by Digital Tourism Think Tank! 🤳 Vote for us in the People's Choice Award! 👉 https://brnw.ch/21wP1ab The introduction of the VisitLuxembourg App in July 2021 marked a significant milestone for Luxembourg for Tourism GIE for tourism, advancing the digital transformation of the destination and enhancing visitor engagement. "We recognised the need for changes to boost user retention and to enhance the user experience onsite by better managing tourism flows. We decided to integrate gamification features that would challenge visitors to experience Luxembourg in unique ways and discover hidden attractions in a playful manner," explains Sandy Rischette, Head of Digital & Data Management. This led to the introduction of the "Challenges" in July 2023. These Challenges invite app users to explore Luxembourg interactively. The concept is simple: visitors check in at designated locations to collect points, with check-ins restricted to certain geofenced areas. The challenge itself helps visitors to explore the destination and the journey and discoveries serve as the ultimate reward. During peak season, ensuring that as many visitors as possible have a high-quality experience is a priority. The Challenges not only enrich visitor engagement but also help manage user flows by directing people toward lesser-known yet equally impressive spots. Families, which represent 34% of overnight travellers and tend to stay longer on average (5 days), are often returning guests and contribute to more sustainable travel practices. Both tourists and locals can discover new and intriguing corners of Luxembourg, away from the usual tourist hotspots. 🤳 Vote for the VisitLuxembourg Challenges in the People's Choice Award! 👉 https://brnw.ch/21wP1ab #xawards2024 #xawards #voteforus #peopleschoiceaward #thinkdigital #gamification #travel #tourism #visitluxembourg #luxembourgfortourism

Luxembourg for Tourism GIE was once again present at the annual #ANTOR Media Workshop in #Brussels, held at the CoHop. Felix Thill from the PR team took the opportunity to reconnect with familiar faces and build new, promising media contacts: "What stood out most was the strong interest and curiosity in Luxembourg as a destination— so close yet so unknown." Next year's LUGA - Luxembourg Urban Garden along with #Schengen's 40th Anniversary along with the planned official inauguration of the restored original "Prinzessin Marie-Astrid Europa" were among the hot topics and will certainly stand out on any travel plan in 2025. #mediaworkshop #travel #tourism #visitluxembourg #luxembourgfortourism

Last night at Malt, a converted former beer bottling factory in the historic Clausen district #LuxembourgCity, the European Travel Commission (ETC) and Eurail revealed the winners of the 2024 #RailTourismAwards, recognising excellence in rail travel promotion. Now in its fourth year, the Rail Tourism Awards recognise exceptional campaigns that highlight the freedom, adventure, and sustainability of exploring Europe by train. Four winning campaigns out of 25 submissions were selected by a panel of judges from across the tourism, rail, and marketing industries. This year’s jury included Elke Dens of The Travel Foundation, Nicky Gardner and Susanne Kries of hidden europe, Marit Ruuda from the European Commission, Mark Smith, also known as ‘The Man in Seat 61’, and Owen Farrington of krow.x. 🎉 Congratulations to the winners! 🎉 🇪🇺 "Interrail: All-inclusive Redefined" by SBB AG in collaboration with Sweet took home the award for #BestEuropean Campaign for its fresh take on the classic all-inclusive holiday. 🚄 The award for #BestNational Campaign went to the "Trains of the New Generation" campaign by SŽ-Potniški promet. The campaign creatively portrays adult passengers as children, utilising a nostalgic angle to suggest that train journeys are more than transportation and can evoke great feelings of joy and wonder. 💚 French travel platform Mollow’s "Discover Europe by Train and Bike" campaign won this year’s award for #BestGreen Campaign. The campaign promoted eco-friendly travel by showing how train journeys can be combined with cycling routes across Europe. 🚞 "Treno Gottardo – Die schönste Verbindung zwischen Nord" – a campaign by Schweizerische Südostbahn AG that revitalises Switzerland's Gotthard scenic route and encourages travellers to choose the panoramic rail journey over the faster tunnel option – was awarded this year’s #JuryPrize. Special thanks to our moderators Melissa Dalton and John-Paul Gomez who also lead the General Meeting workshop: "Improvise, Inspire, Lead." and to Pancake!
