What a great Christmas gift for the German Finance industry! Recently, the Deutscher Bundestag adopted an initiative by the German government to regulate the digital financial market. The aim is to implement European law at national level. Among other things, the Act is intended to create a new law on the supervision of markets for #crypto assets (Crypto Markets Supervision Act - KMAG). A number of other laws will be amended. By adapting German law as a result of EU Regulation 2023/1114, ‘the European market will be opened up to German providers and Germany's locational advantages will be realised thanks to its extensive experience in the field of crypto regulation with regard to new market entrants’, according to the explanatory memorandum to the law. "The Czech Republic is witnessing a shift from cash to contactless and cashless transactions, driven by factors such as the growth of the e-commerce sector. This transition is accompanied by growing demand for account-to-account transactions and point-of-sale software solutions. The fintech market is flourishing, with startups offering various services, while the country has also become a hot spot for crypto-currency companies." This is the key takeaway from Ivo Apetauer| Head of Immersive Technology – Deloitte Czech Republic, regarding the Czech payments ecosystem, as featured in our whitepaper, “Key Players in the EU Payments Landscape 2024: https://lnkd.in/du8U6GfV 💳 With a 95% banked population of 10,88 million and an Internet penetration of 92,8%, the Czech Republic has seen a steady decline in cash usage over the last few years. Indeed, while Czechia is one of the most prominent countries in Europe where cash payments are popular, customers are slowly transitioning to contactless payments (credit cards, online banking, and more). 67% of Czech consumers indicate a strong preference for non-cash transactions. 📲 Key players in alternative payment methods include Akcenta CZ for domestic and international payments, SAB Finance a.s. for foreign exchange and cross-border services, and Twisto, A Param Company, a BNPL pioneer acquired by Param in 2023, serving over 85,000 merchants. Other notable options include Skip Pay for BNPL, as well as widely adopted platforms like Google Pay, Apple Pay, Skrill, and PayPal. 🏦 The Czech banking sector, known for its progressiveness and concentration, is dominated by foreign-owned banks, including CSOB (part of KBC Bank & Verzekering ), Česká spořitelna (part of Erste Group), and Komerční banka (part of Societe Generale). Together, these banks hold significant market shares, with Česká spořitelna serving 4.5 million clients and Komerční Banka earning the Mastercard Bank of the Year 2023 award. The interbank payment system is powered by Certis, which supports over 50 banks and PSPs in instant payments. 📶 On the processing front in the Czech Republic, major players include GoPay (part of Worldline), PayU, and Paysera, offering payment solutions tailored to merchants' needs. Global Payments Inc. dominates 80% of the banking market, while Softpay, in partnership with Dotykačka Slovensko, provides innovative tap-to-phone technology. Other notable providers include PayCEC, CSOB Gateway, Adyen, Stripe, and EVO Payments, Inc.. Download the full report here: https://lnkd.in/du8U6GfV

"Estonia’s highly digitalised economy has provided a strong foundation for numerous fintech companies to emerge, including several globally recognised players in the payments field.” This is the key takeaway from René Küüsvek | Assistant Director - M&A, Strategy and Analytics at Deloitte Estonia, regarding the Estonian payments ecosystem, as featured in our whitepaper, “Key Players in the EU Payments Landscape 2024: https://lnkd.in/du8U6GfV Estonia is a European leader in startups and digital innovation, boasting the highest per-capita concentration of unicorns. Named the most advanced digital society in the world, Estonia - also called e-Estonia - has built an efficient, secure and transparent ecosystem where 99% of government services are online. This digital-first approach also applies to the payment’s world. 💳 However, despite the decreasing popularity of cash, Estonians still prefer to have the option to pay with cash, making them one of the highest users of cash transactions among European countries. 📲 Estonia's payment landscape is dominated by contactless cards, digital banking, and innovative fintech solutions, with 65% of online payments made via banking systems. Key players include Paysera for e-wallets, Nikulipe with its Banklinq open banking solution, Wise for cross-border transfers, Monese with its consumer and B2B services, and Boku (through its acquisition of @Fortumo) for mobile carrier billing. Companies like Wert and Swapin are also advancing cryptocurrency payment tools. 🏦 The Estonian banking sector is largely dominated by foreign institutions, with Swedish banks like Swedbank Estonia (28.47% market share) and SEB (16.63%) controlling nearly 45% of the market. Local player and esteemed member of our association AS LHV Pank (UK), Estonia's largest domestically-owned bank, is notable for its fintech-focused services and international expansion, while Luminor Bank caters to SMEs and high-net-worth individuals. Other notable players include Coop Bank A/S, Bigbank, and the internationally popular neobank Revolut. Wallester, also proud member of our association, is present in Estonia and is a licensed white-label Visa card issuer that can issue both virtual and physical cards. 📶 On the processing front, Estonia's key players include Nets Estonia and Swedbank Estonia for card payment processing. Other players include EveryPay, Maksekeskus and Montonio. Download the full report here: https://lnkd.in/du8U6GfV
