Two years on from the devastating 2023 earthquake in Türkiye and Syria, we remember the resilience of affected communities and the power of humanitarian collaboration. Over one in three people worldwide are affected by brain conditions, from depression and anxiety in younger populations to stroke and dementia in older adults. The global economic impact is estimated at a staggering $2.1 trillion annually – that is comparable to two-thirds of India’s GDP and bound to grow at over 5% annually. The urgency to invest in brain health is clear. Brain health is not only a public health concern—it is fundamental to economic resilience. Strong mental well-being enhances productivity, retention, and profitability, yet investments remain insufficient. At the recent EIB Institute Foresight Roundtable, we explored how to drive this meaningful change by investing in the #BrainEconomy. Our high-level discussion, opened by VP Thomas Östros and co-hosted with NeuroCentury and Brain Capital Alliance, brought together investors, policymakers, scientists, and industry leaders to address: ✅ Key areas for brain health investment ✅ New funding models and measurable impact metrics ✅ The role of neurology, mental health, and care infrastructure in shaping the future VP Kyriacos Kakouris closed the session, reinforcing the EIB's commitment to accelerating investments in brain health to tackle the growing challenges. The European Investment Bank (EIB) is actively investing in the #BrainEconomy, supporting research and innovation in neurology, psychiatry, and medical technology. Over the past five years, the EIB has committed 22 billion EUR to the Health and Life Sciences sector, with an annual lending volume of 4.4 billion EUR. This includes 2.9 billion EUR invested in 2024, supporting key priorities like the EU’s Beating Cancer Plan, digital health systems, and new technologies to improve brain function. Thank you to the visionary leadership of our EIB Institute Head Shiva Dustdar for driving this foresight initiative forward with Paweł Świeboda and Harris Eyre, championing the global movement together with key actors from across the brain economy. The Certificate in Law and Regulation of Inclusive Finance 2025 programme has come to an end, after two incredible weeks of learning, discussion, and connection. To our incredible participants—congratulations! 🏅 Over these two weeks, 25 participants from 20 different nationalities came together to explore the challenges and opportunities in #inclusivefinance. From financial inclusion and #microfinance to impact investing and #fintech regulation, you tackled complex issues, shared expertise, and built meaningful connections. Your dedication and passion give us hope for a more equitable financial future. Superar Wien freut sich über die Unterstützung der European Investment Bank (EIB). Ein besonderer Dank gilt Shiva Dustdar und Edina C. für ihr Engagement in diesem Projekt. Dank dieser Förderung konnten wir unsere Arbeit in fünf Ländern – Österreich, Slowakei, Bosnien, Ungarn und Rumänien– weiter ausbauen. Diese Unterstützung ermöglicht es uns, Kinder und Jugendliche in Chören, Orchestern und Instrumentalgruppen zusammenzubringen und ihnen eine musikalische Ausbildung zu bieten. Musik wird so zu einer Sprache, die verbindet, neue Perspektiven eröffnet und Zukunftschancen schafft. Ein besonderes Highlight in diesem Jahr ist das Jahreskonzert am 10. März 2025 im Wiener Konzerthaus mit dem Titel „Jo! Strauss – Hear me out!“. Dieses einzigartige Konzert stellt die Stimmen, Gedanken und Träume unserer jungen Musiker*innen in den Mittelpunkt. Ihre eigenen Texte verschmelzen mit den zeitlosen Melodien von Johann Strauss und schaffen ein musikalisches Erlebnis, das bewegt und inspiriert. Superar Wien ist dankbar für die wertvolle Unterstützung und freut sich, gemeinsam mit engagierten Partner*innen neue musikalische Wege zu eröffnen. Thanks to this funding, we have been able to expand our work in five countries – Austria, Slovakia, Bosnia, Hungary, and Romania. This support enables us to bring children and young people together in choirs, orchestras, and instrumental groups, providing them with a musical education. Music thus becomes a language that connects, opens up new perspectives, and creates future opportunities. A special highlight this year is the annual concert on March 10, 2025, at the Wiener Konzerthaus, titled "Jo! Strauss – Hear me out!". This unique concert puts the voices, thoughts, and dreams of our young musicians at the center. Their own texts merge with the timeless melodies of Johann Strauss, creating a musical experience that moves and inspires. Superar Wien is grateful for this valuable support and looks forward to exploring new musical paths together with dedicated partners.

The financing of transformative innovations requires a fundamental shift in how we evaluate, structure, and deploy capital. Last week, we held our second session in the event series co-hosted by the EIB Institute and The Club of Rome, titled #InnovatingFinance. As part of EIB Institute’s Foresight series, this session focused on: 🔵 the role of #public and #privatefinance in driving transformative innovation 🔵 insights from the Club of Rome’s paper "From Financing Change to Changing Finance," 🔵 how we can reshape the financial system to create a more regenerative and just economy.   🎄✨ Spreading Holiday Cheer in Luxembourg! ✨🎄 We at the EIB Institute are thrilled to have supported the Christmas concert of Les Amis du Chant Luxembourg, a choir that has been enchanting audiences for 44 years, at the Conservatoire. This year, we purchased 45 tickets for socially underprivileged individuals, allowing them to enjoy an evening of beautiful music and festive spirit.   The concert featured the mesmerizing Laurent Felten, who captivated us with his rendition of "Christmas Celebration" by John Rutter, alongside the talented Luxembourg Brass Ensemble. It was a magical night filled with joy and community spirit.   At the EIB Institute, we believe in the power of music to bring people together and create lasting memories.
