     Adolf Herzog von Holstein-Gottorp was born on 25 January 1526. He was the son of Frederik I Oldenburg, King of Denmark and Prinzessin Sophie von Pommern-Wolgast. He married Christine von Hessen, daughter of Philip I Landgraf von Hessen and Christina von Sachsen, on 17 December 1564. He died on 1 October 1586 at age 60.
     He gained the title of Herzog von Pommern. He gained the title of Herzog von Holstein-Gottorp.
