     Vice-Admiral James William Rivett-Carnac was born on 12 February 1891.² He was the son of Rev. Sir Clennel George Rivett-Carnac, 6th Bt. and Emily Louisa Crabbe.^2,3 He married Isla Nesta Blackwood, daughter of Harry Officer Blackwood, on 20 April 1922.² He died on 9 October 1970 at age 79.²
     He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in despatches.² He was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross (D.S.C.)⁴ He fought in the Second World War, where he was mentioned in despatches twice.² He was Commodore of the New Zealand Squadron.² He was commander of the H.M.S.
