     George Edward Mervyn Thorneycroft was born on 4 October 1883.1 He was the son of George Benjamin Thorneycroft and Blanche Mary Mervyn Archdale. He married, firstly, Dorothy Hope Franklyn, daughter of Lt.-Gen. Sir William Edumnd Franklyn, on 23 April 1908.1 He married, secondly, Gertrude Harpham, daughter of William Howson Harpham, on 27 April 1938.1 He died on 15 June 1943 at age 59.1
     He was educated at Clifton College, Clifton, Bristol, England.1 He was educated at Royal Military Academy, Woolwich, London, England.1 He gained the rank of Major in the Royal Artillery.1 He fought in the First World War.1 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.)1 He lived at Dunston, Staffordshire, England.1

     Dorothy Hope Franklyn was the daughter of Lt.-Gen. Sir William Edumnd Franklyn. She married George Edward Mervyn Thorneycroft, son of George Benjamin Thorneycroft and Blanche Mary Mervyn Archdale, on 23 April 1908.1 She died on 19 December 1929.1
     From 23 April 1908, her married name became Thorneycroft.
