Strictly Come Dancing 2021 fans, the judges and fellow stars were left in awe by Rose Ayling-Ellis and Giovanni Pernice’s latest dance, as a moment danced in silence celebrated the Deaf community.
On tonight’s episode of Strictly, Rose and Giovanni sparked tears yet again with a heartfelt and emotional routine, performing their Couple’s Choice dance to Symphony by Clean Bandit.
Earlier in the week, the pair visited Deafinitely Theatre where Rose used to attend when she was younger, with the EastEnders actor telling some of the children there: ‘In this dance, we have a very special moment, and there’s a moment in it that I’m doing it for the Deaf community.’
That moment came midway through the routine, when suddenly, the music stopped, with Rose and Giovanni continuing to dance beautifully in silence and darkness.
When their performance came to an end, judges Motsi Mabuse and Shirley Ballas were on their feet, with a tearful Motsi telling Rose: ‘I honestly feel like saying thank you, because this was such a beautiful moment to include us in your world, and for us to actually understand how important and how aware we all could be of each other generally everywhere, and this was so special.
She continued: ‘Sometimes it’s more than scores and marks and dances, sometimes it’s just a moment, and we just had that. Thank you so much.’
Shirley stood up ‘out of respect’ as she delivered her response, explaining that she wasn’t expecting the silent moment to happen in the dance.
‘I’m sure the Deaf community will be absolutely so proud of you, and for sharing your heart and for being honest and for people seeing that a beautiful young lady like you can be successful. This is a number that will be etched in my heart for a long, long time. It was absolutely beautiful,’ she said.
Anton Du Beke also became emotional, saying their dance was the ‘greatest thing’ he’d ever seen throughout all his years on Strictly.
After critiquing the technique of their contemporary dance, Craig Revel Horwood shared praise, saying it was ‘fabulous’.
One viewer said they had ‘goosebumps’ watching the dance, adding: ‘What a moment that was.’
‘Bawling, bawling…incredibly poignant and moving and unpredictable. I will never ever forget this dance,’ another said.
Someone else tweeted that the routine made them ‘cry’, writing: ‘Rose is a wonderful soul and a beautiful ambassador for the deaf community. So beautifully danced! My deaf granddaughter is in awe of her, and rightly so.’
