Helen Skelton’s adorable son is her biggest cheerleader as she prepares for the Strictly Come Dancing 2022 finals.
The former Blue Peter presenter and her professional partner Gorka Marquez are battling for the Glitterball Trophy in the BBC’s juggernaut series, hosted by Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly.
The 39-year-old will be fending off stiff competition from Fleur East and Vito Coppola, Hamza Yassin and Jowita Przystal and Molly Rainford and Carlos Gu, with the champion decided by the public, rather than the judging panel.
And if the Countryfile host’s son gets his way she will be dancing home the winner of the beloved series after his adorable show of support.
Helen shares three children Ernie, seven, Louis, five, and baby Elsie, 10 months, with her ex-husband rugby league player Richie Myler.
On Instagram on Saturday, the Newsround presenter posted a picture of her son who was brandishing a t-shirt with her face on it with the words ‘Team Helen.’
The proud mum captioned the post: ‘When your son goes to school in this tee shirt.’
Helen will perform three dances on Saturday: the jive to Tightrope by Janelle Monae at the request of the judges, their couples choice routine to Mein Herr by Liza Minnelli from Cabaret and finally their show dance to Shine by Emeli Sande.
She came close to the coveted perfect 40 with her Cabaret performance during musicals week, scoring 39 points and receiving a standing ovation from head judge Shirley Ballas.
During her time on the hit BBC One show, Helen has topped the leaderboard on a number of occasions and managed to avoid the dreaded dance-off the entire series.
Reflecting on her stint on Strictly, Helen became emotional during its spin-off series It Takes Two on Friday after watching a compilation of video messages from her family.
Her supportive sister praised her for being ‘fierce’ and ‘confident’, particularly in her couple’s choice dance – which many have hailed a ‘revenge routine’ following her marriage split.
When asked by hosts Rylan Clark and Janette Manrara what it would mean to be crowned Strictly champs this weekend, Helen gave a gracious answer.
‘We would love to lift that trophy but I feel like we’ve already won it,’ she began.
‘We’ve had such an adventure and you’re [Gorka] a credit to the show, you’re a credit to your family.
