Commuters were warned of severe disruption to their morning journeys after a fire halted the London Overground.

Passengers faced a transport a headache this morning after a fire suspended a major section of the Overground.

The blaze was on lineside near the track between Hackney Central and Dalston Kingsland, bringing chaos at rush hour as many passengers were left stranded.

Transport for London told Metro.co.uk: ‘There was a lineside fire this morning near the track between Hackney Central and Dalston Kingsland that impacted several London Overground routes which pass through that area.’

For hours, there was no service between Willesden Junction and Richmond, while the route between Stratford and Clapham Junction had severe delays.

Service on the Richmond-branch resumed to normal at about 11am, and TfL said it expected ‘services impacted by this fire to be back to normal by midday.’

As the fire-related issues improved, trains were suspended between Highbury and Islington and Dalston due to a track fault at Canonbury, the latest TfL travel update shows.

Northern line also experienced severe delays due to an earlier fire alert at Morden, which was later downgraded to ‘minor delays.’

In south London, tram passengers will see an impact on the service until Monday, 8 July and from Thursday, July 11 as Unite the Union members are due to go on strike.
