Eamonn Holmes has said he feels ‘humiliated’ needing carers for ‘the smallest thing’, as he returned to GB News.

The presenter, 64, failed to address his absence from his breakfast programme after being forced to pull out halfway through Tuesday’s show, but did open up about needing care.

This comes after he claimed last week that he was on ‘borrowed time’ and that he was ‘not OK’, weeks since his split from Loose Women star Ruth Langsford.

Amid his ongoing health struggles, he’s since been pictured using a walking frame and crutches, with Ruth having shared weeks earlier that he ‘might never be 100% right’.

Speaking on Wednesday’s GB News, Eamonn said: ‘I have been basically disabled for a year and a half or so, and it’s horrendous.

‘I have to have carers to do the smallest, simplest thing.

‘It’s humiliating, it’s humbling, and thank goodness that the carers are available.’

On Tuesday’s breakfast show with Isabel Webster, Eamonn was forced to leave early after feeling unwell.

A spokesperson for GB News told Metro.co.uk: ‘Eamonn had to finish a little earlier today as he was feeling unwell. He hopes to be back tomorrow.’

The broadcaster did return on Wednesday, where he was joined by Ellie Costello, but dove straight into the programme and didn’t address his absence at the start of the show.

Elsewhere during the programme, he hit out at ‘workshy’ culture in a furious rant, after Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer said he puts work aside on Fridays after 6pm, unless ‘it’s absolutely urgent or a special reason’.

‘Should you be expected to work at all?’ Eamonn fumed on GB News.

‘There’s a massive part of the audience that obviously don’t seem to want to work.

‘Let’s work from home. Let’s work three days a week. For goodness sake.

‘It goes on and on. There’s a clue in the title, “work”, how much more should be expected?’

It’s reported he left the programme at around 7.45am on Tuesday, appearing to go missing during an interview with Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Mental Health Maria Caulfield.

He left offscreen, with Isabel presenting the final 90 minutes of the show alone, and failing to address Eamonn’s absence.

A friend claimed to MailOnline that Eamonn was in good spirits, despite having to leave and go home early.

Last week, the veteran television presenter claimed that he was on ‘borrowed time’ and ‘not OK,’ in an appearance at an awards ceremony.

Eamonn revealed how he had been suffering from poor health and almost skipped the awards due to back pain, and said he was only able to attend the ceremony with the use of a high-tech wheelchair and a walker for support.

‘I’m not OK. This is not a good time at all,’ he admitted.

Eamonn’s chronic pain started after he slipped three discs in 2021 and lost ‘full mobility’.

He then underwent spinal surgery the following year, which left him off air for almost four months as he recovered, however, he suffered a major setback when he fell down the stairs, later saying he ‘smashed’ his shoulder.

Earlier this year, Eamonn said his health issues had prevented him from travelling to Belfast for the funeral of his mother, Josie, last year and that he felt ‘confined’ to a wheelchair.

‘It’s as if somebody up there is playing with my life. In the past year, I’ve had an operation on my back which went wrong and has confined me to a wheelchair,’ he said on GB News.

‘I’ve fallen and broken my shoulder. Honestly, you could not make it up.’

Eamonn also opened up about the toll his poor health has take last year, saying: ‘I get resentful that I’m not the way I used to be but I just get on with it.’

Just days before announcing their separation, Ruth opened up about her ex-husband’s health struggles in an interview, worrying that he will ‘never be 100% right’.

She told Woman’s Weekly: ‘I don’t know how much Eamonn’s mobility will improve. We live in hope.

‘He does the physio, but there might have to be some acceptance that this might never be 100% right.

‘With any care situation – and there are millions of carers in this country – it isn’t always easy. It’s testing but we manage as a family.’

Metro.co.uk has approached GB News and Eamonn’s reps for comment.
