Netflix viewers can now watch a horror movie that left fans ‘screaming several times’ when first tuning in.
Released in 2016, Don’t Breathe was the first instalment of a franchise that saw a sequel released in 2021.
The first starred Jane Levy, Dylan Minnette, Daniel Zovatto, and Stephen Lang as three delinquents living in Detroit who make their living by breaking into homes and stealing valuables.
After receiving a tip-off that Gulf War veteran Norman Nordstrom (Stephen Lang) has $300,000 in cash in his house in an abandoned Detroit neighbourhood, the trio start to spy on the house before finding out their target is blind.
Deciding to go ahead with their plan to rob him, they break in one night before things take a deadly turn and they find themselves being hunted down in the home.
The film, which holds an 88% rating on Rotten Tomatoes has been labelled ‘a truly frightening edge of your seat thriller’.
‘I wasn’t expecting much from this movie and damn I was very much wrong. One of the best movies I’ve ever seen,’ user killerglitchs posted on the review site.
‘Loved this movie! Could not stop gasping,’ Kayla shared.
‘I love this movie for its unpredictable parts and the interesting and exciting storyline. While watching the movie, you feel trapped inside the house just as much as the characters do,’ another added.
Others called it ‘the best horror movie ever’.
In an interview with Collider around the time of the film’s release, Lang spoke about why he didn’t see his character as a villain despite what he does to the young trio.
‘You can understand why I don’t approach him as a villain, right? OK. But this particular piece, one of the things that attracted me to it is it’s extremely ambiguous. This guy, the character role I play, is a victim first and foremost and has been a victim,’ he explained.

‘I wouldn’t say he’s got a good heart or a bad heart. I’d say he’s got a broken heart, in a way. He’s a broken-hearted man, is what he is. But, for all his heartbreak, he’s got a steel backbone, too.’
Director Fede Álvarez also said that despite the character starting as an underdog, after certain things are revealed he ‘cannot let’ the trio go.
‘There’s not [another] option. He has to kill these kids,’ he said.
