I thought I would share a couple of small details in our primary bedroom as it transitions from Winter into Spring. I don’t make many big changes to my house through the seasons except for Christmas. I do like to make subtle shifts with things that are easy to switch out, though. It’s a way to refresh a space without spending a lot of time or money on it.
I took down the greens around the top of the bed frame and switched from the indigo sheets back to the cream ones. I have decided to keep the winter arrangement out for a few more days, though, but that will be swapped out with something that makes sense for Spring and Summer. I’ve just enjoyed it, so I’ve left it out. To add a touch of spring, I brought in a couple of While these pillows aren’t specifically “Spring” pillows, adding the warm green feels like spring to me.
The pillows are from the new Chris Loves Julia x Loloi collection and are available in several colors. Of course, I got them in olive.
They are not only the perfect shade of green for this room, but could work in several rooms in our house. I love pieces like that since I feel like I’ll always have a good spot for them.
I also wanted to share about the block print quilt I use on our bed. It was in the background of a few of my Instagram Stories, especially when I was sick and sharing pictures of the kitties keeping me company, and several people asked me for a source. The quilt is from Nine & Sixteen, Tessa Foley’s home decor brand. I have been admiring her textiles for years and finally hit one of her collection launches at just the perfect time to buy this quilt. Of course, the blues and greens are perfect for our house! Our bedding is layered with a sheet, a feather duvet, and a light quilt. I find that I want just one more layer of weight and warmth and this quilt is perfect. It’s also easier to wash a throw quilt than an entire king-sized quilt when needed.
I like that I can have the quilt at the end of the bed during the day and it looks right at home there, even if it’s just casually placed there.
I bought some blue/gray sample paint pots for this room a few weeks ago that I’m going to test out soon. When we first moved in and stripped the wallpaper off of these walls, I wanted a fresh start with white. I wasn’t ready to pick colors and didn’t want to pressure myself into a decision. White would look great and give me a clean slate while I considered other options. Now that we’ve been in the house a while, I think these walls could benefit from some color, so I’m going to try out some swatches and see if we have a winner.
In addition to painting, there’s still a lot to do in this room to make it feel finished. I have only hung a few things on the “bed wall” and have left the rest of the room blank. I’m not sure I’ve even solidified the furniture placement or how the closets are organized. I’ve learned that it takes time to get to know a room and a house and it’s okay to let things unfold slowly if I’m not exactly sure how I want to progress. There are plenty of things to do in this house to keep me busy until I figure it out.
Love the green velvet pillows. In my minds eye velvet is always perfect, and the quilt is like the cherry on top.
Love the mossy velvet pillows. I wonder if F&B’s BANCHA would be a good paint color for your room…
Marian, I have searched all over and find it very difficult to find block print fabric. I can sew and want to make pillow covers, lamp shade covers etc and can’t seem to find the type of block print patterns I am looking for, similar to those shown on your quilt. Can you supply us with a place that sells fabric like this? Didn’t you have some fabric in block print that you created at one time? Is is still available somewhere?
Thank you so much!
Jodie
Amazon has block print fabric by the yard. Don’t know if there is anything you would like but worth a check.
Hi Jodie, I’m in the same boat as you. I’ve scoured Amazon for block print fabric but many of the prints are too big for pillow covers or lamp shade covers (the same things I want to sew). Try looking on Etsy. There are many lovely prints from India at a fair price. Also try ‘looking outside the box’ at tablecloths and sheets. I have my eye on sweet yellow and white ditsy print sheets on Target that appear to be the proper scale for my projects. Good luck!
Amy
I am wondering about the bed! I’m in the market for a new bed
that has that French country look without being too formal looking. Your bed is perfect!
I love the olive pillows! That’s the color of our dining room.
I totally agree it takes time to really understand and feel a new home. We’ve lived in our current home five years and we have an odd wall in our living room with several switches and a thermostat. Up until now we’d just had a few items casually displayed on a table beneath the wall and one picture on the table leaning against it. Just this week I finally figured out what and how to create a grouping of items on the wall and we love it. If feels right and I don’t mind one bit that I took my time and played with several ideas before finding the right one!
We still have our basement/family room craft area to work out…as we use it for sorting, still unpacking, lol, and refining. It’s so nice to have that extra overflow space and work area, isn’t it!
I have a teal velvet pillow with a gold peacock on it and I also have an olive green round tufted pillow in velvet both in my living room. I am obsessed with velvet, I can’t get enough. Next on my list is a velvet sofa, if I could ever afford it. Thanks for your inspiration Marian I really enjoy your newsletter.
