Some initial insights from our collaboration with Guardian of Future Generations - Malta
🌍 Reflecting on 2024: Building More #Liveable, #Safer, and #Playful Cities As 2024 comes to a close, we’ve been reflecting on what it takes to make our cities and towns more welcoming, inclusive, and vibrant for everyone. Over the past months, our team has had the privilege of working closely with the communities of #Safi, #Żurrieq, and #Kirkop. Through walk audits, surveys, and creative workshops, we’ve gathered valuable insights into how public spaces can better support walking, cycling, and active living. What did we learn? 🌟 Local communities are full of ideas and aspirations for safer, greener, and more connected spaces. 🌟 Challenges like traffic, accessibility, and limited green areas remain, but there’s immense potential for transformation. 🌟 Small, thoughtful interventions can spark big changes in how spaces are used and enjoyed. 💡 #Engagement Highlights: 📅 At #Safi’s Festa Familja, our researchers connected with over 30 children who shared their safety concerns through clay sculptures and spoke about what they need to feel secure in public spaces. Common themes included family, friends, nature, and safe infrastructure. 📝 Surveys with local residents emphasized the need for dedicated cycling and walking infrastructure. 👩🎓 Discussions with students at Pietru Pawl Saydon Secondary School, St Benedict's School, Kirkop, revealed barriers like after-school commitments, parental fear, and lack of safe spaces—while enablers included social connections, nature, and infrastructure that supports safety and physical activities.
