PEVCA Malta values member engagement as a key priority, recognising that active participation strengthens our collective impact. Yesterday, Mike Portanier hosted a number of representatives from local Fund Managers to a focused workshop ensuring that their voices shape our direction and initiatives. The meeting promoted insightful discussions on required focus areas such as strengthening Malta’s international positioning as an attractive jurisdiction for Private Equity and Venture Capital managers and structures highlighting advantages such as the new LP framework, cost efficiency, regulator accessibility and high-quality service providers. There was also a requirement for a more structured promotional approach to enhance Malta’s visibility abroad. In addition, greater support for networking initiatives was encouraged to facilitate connections between promoters, anchor investors, and third-party managers, driving industry growth. Moving forward, PEVCA Malta will continue to prioritise open dialogue and meaningful engagement to serve our members. I’ve always had a soft spot for Malta. Perhaps the only place which has been awarded a medal for bravery. After 3 years of constantly being bombarded by the Germans and Italians till it was devastated but still resilient - it was awarded the George Medal. And then of course Alan Coren remarked - Malta is the only country where the local delicacy is Bread. Me and Ambassador Maria Camilleri Calleja started to discuss how a country can focus also on FPI almost 6 years back and we decided to work on helping Maltese Funds to raise capital and develop Malta as the gateway to Europe as well as into Africa. Paulianne Nwoko who is our local regional head and Herald Bonnici encouraged me to pop into Malta and speak to the members on the latest trends in the alternative space and capital raising strategies.
