Harvard Alumni Adaptive Leadership Network. Harvard Fellow, HBR. Multi-Awarded Biz Woman. Exec. Coach, Author, Speaker. Gov. Cabinet Min., Board, C-Suite Advisor. Cofounder Mandela-Inspired Global Leadership Movement.
Directors, Boards, and Shareholders Where is the Focus and the Balance? Profit-Making, Profit-Taking, and 'Good Business.' Growing up in the trade and consumer marketing departments of the multi-national consumer marketing giant Lever Bros, Unilever, in the detergents (Surf, Omo, Good & Clean & Fresh, Sunlight), dish wash liquids (Sunlight), auto dish wash liquids (Sun), bath soaps (Lux, Sunlight, Vinolia, Breeze), and laundry soap (Sunlight) markets, I learned that profit-making and profit-taking are good. But never at the expense of the consumer, the business partners (suppliers), the environment, or other stakeholders. It is about 'good business.' And 'good business' made 'good business sense.' It is not solely about the numbers. It's A Paradigm Shift. It’s like other parts of the world: this notion of doing well and doing good, the short term versus the long term, and a different timeframe for expecting results. It’s short-term thinking versus sustainability and longer-term thinking. In Lever Bros, Unilever South Africa, we dominated and retained market leadership in 8 of the 9 market categories. Proft-making, profit-taking, and doing 'good' business, makes good business sense. #self-discipline #mandelamoments #westpoint #leadingboldly

Today, we conclude the four-part series on relationships. We explore the life of the late Herman Chinyere Hesse from Ghana, the Co-Founder of SOFTribe- the largest software services company in Ghana. A successful techpreneur who was skilled at his craft, he however not only became successful from his craft but from connectedness. He had an uncanny ability to build deep and positive relationships with a wide range of people. He genuinely believed that the most powerful connections are not digital but human. In this third of the four-episode series on Relationships, we highlight and compare 3 consecutive presidents of South Africa; how they handled their relationships and its impact on their presidential tenures.
