About Héroes del Silencio
Spanish rock band Héroes del Silencio was fronted by Enrique Bunbury, who took his last name from a character in Oscar Wilde’s novel The Importance of Being Earnest. ∙ The group’s 1987 debut album, El Mar No Cesa, went Platinum and propelled them to stardom, and its 1990 follow-up, Senderos de Traición, sold more than 2 million copies. ∙ In 1993, Prince Felipe—who’s since become the King of Spain—met with Héroes del Silencio, declaring himself a fan and thanking them for popularizing Spanish-language music abroad. ∙ Following two successful albums produced by Roxy Music’s Phil Manzanera, Héroes del Silencio enlisted producer Bob Ezrin (Alice Cooper, Kiss) for their final studio LP, Avalanza. ∙ More than a decade after their initial split, the band reunited in 2007 for a special 10-date tour across Spain and Latin America, playing for more than 80,000 fans at their final show in Valencia. ∙ The group has won three of Spain’s Onda Awards, including a 2007 Special Jury Prize recognizing their long career and global impact. ∙ In 2012, Rolling Stone awarded Héroes del Silencio the No. 2 spot on its list of the 50 Best Spanish Rock Groups of all time.
