Tijuana norteño ensemble Grupo Codiciado radically switch up their sound on Loqueando Con Banda, Vol. 1. While they retain the energetic guitars that added so much excitement to their early corridos, they also kick off their third album with a burst of riotous brass, unexpectedly embracing banda’s jazz-like swing. But even when they flirt with elegance, their passion still courses through this brief set, with ballad-tempo stunners like “Paso a Paso” and “El Jacal” hitting huge peaks courtesy of that new horn section.
