Since they launched their formidable partnership on 2021 EP 593, Vol. I, the duo of singer, rapper and songwriter Ranjani ‘RANJ’ Ramadoss and producer Chlipher ‘Clifr’ Christopher have risen to be among the most exciting exponents of R&B and hip-hop in India’s independent music scene. If their debut LP, 2023’s Antihero, leaned more into heavier electronic and rap territory, this five-song set has Clifr channelling his inner Rodney Jerkins for RANJ to showcase her vocals over late-1990s/early 2000s Destiny’s Child/Beyonce-style jams. True to form, the record is simultaneously sultry and sinewy.
