A staple of '80s-centric playlists, The Psychedelic Furs came together in England during the postpunk era and released seven albums between 1980 and 1991. Mostly identified by Richard Butler's unique lead vocals (kind of a cross between David Bowie and John Lydon), the Furs never reached the mainstream success of their new wave peers. But they were a big influence on countless artists of the time, and over the years they dropped many quality singles (primarily moody love songs with plenty of synths). This collection draws mostly from their earlier work and includes their best-known song, "Pretty in Pink," which would inspire John Hughes' classic 1986 film of the same name. A reunited/revamped version of the Furs still tour sporadically (they performed 1981's Talk, Talk, Talk on the road in 2011), but it's great to hear these original mixes. Highlights here include "Love My Way," "The Ghost in You," "Heaven," and "Heartbreak Beat."
