About Philippe Quint
Russian-born violinist Philippe Quint developed his musical gifts at a young age and gave his first orchestral performance as a soloist when he was nine. He moved to the United States in 1991 and earned his bachelors and masters degrees from Juilliard. Although his repertoire includes the standard solo and chamber works for violin, he has made something of a specialty of contemporary American composers. His recordings include works by Rorem, Bernstein, Corigliano, Thomson, and Foss, and his recording of the William Schuman Violin Concerto received two Grammy nominations in 2002. In 2004, he gave the premiere of Lera Auerbach's Violin Concerto No. 1, which was written for him. He has toured extensively as a soloist and has been active as a chamber musician at numerous festivals. Critics frequently comment on Quint's charismatic stage presence, dynamic performing style, and intensely lyrical playing. Quint plays a Stradivarius violin that was made available to him on loan.
