Muslim Essentials

After gaining experience in underground hip-hop crew Zanka Flow, Muslim felt empowered to start a solo career, spitting unsparing bars over a range of styles. The ominous boom-bap of 2005 solo debut Strictly for My SouLjaz eventually gave way to uptempo, synth-laden backdrops and chiming melodies pierced by electric guitar. The prolific Tangiers rapper peppers Cheb Rayan’s pop-raï with forceful rhymes in “Ghorba”, softens his flow over the trap rhythm of “L3ayn L7amra”; and uses the pulsating Arabic pop of “Lalla” as a platform to send a strong message condemning violence against women.
