Ensuring Road Safety The road was at significant risk due to soil shifting and visible cracks, especially near a culvert during heavy rainfall. Tension cracks were evident along the affected area. To stabilize and reinforce the area, geogrid wall method was applied for embankment support and Combigrid® at the subgrade layer to address settlement issues. In Götzis, Austria, a residential area is significantly posed to #rockfall hazard. The town council had to act fast after geological surveys revealed the potential for even more significant rockfalls. The options? Either protect the buildings or abandon them. Geobrugg’s strongest rockfall barrier, with an absorption capacity of 10,000 kJ, is installed to ensure these homes remain habitable. This is equivalent to a 25-ton block hitting the barrier at over 100 km/h! To increase the protection, the designers decided to install even two rows of barriers in parallel. The ‘big solution’ is not often necessary, but traditional earth dams built close to the buildings in this difficult topography would hardly be feasible or too costly. ROVULUM - Useful tool for slope stabilization system Engineers often rely on specialized software to guide the design and dimensioning of slope stabilization systems. Useful software tools grounded in theory, backed by empirical data, and validated through large-scale field tests, ensures the solutions is able to address real-world challenges effectively.
