On 26.09.2024, we took some time off from the BICAM ADR Summit to meet with the President of the Sabah Builders Association (SBA) Mr Henry Tsen, the Vice President of SBA Dato Michael Voon, and SBA committee members Ir Chaw Zie Der and Mr Choo Wei Tak at Le Meridian Kota Kinabalu, for an unexpectedly long but very constructive dialog on Sabah construction industry issues faced by contractors in both Government and private sector projects. We derived a great insight into these issues from the SBA, and a preliminary agreement was reached for CSi to collaborate with the SBA in providing training to SBA members on contract administration issues under the PAM and JKR standard form of contracts in the near future. We also heard the frustrations raised by SBA members on the seemingly redundant nature of the very well drafted CIDB Malaysia standard forms of construction contract, where we agree with the SBA it is perhaps high time that in Malaysia there is a unified approach to construction contracts, similar to the approached taken in the UK under the @JCT forms, where the contracts concerned balances the rights and liabilities of all stakeholders. We thank the SBA for meeting with us, we look forward to conducting our first joint session of training with the SBA in due course. #sabah #association #contractors

We are privileged to have met with Dato Nik Nazif Nik zawawi , President of Persatuan Kontraktor Bumiputra Malaysia Sabah in Kota Kinabalu, at Le Meridian KK on 26.09.2024, where Dato Nik had graciously shared his wealth of experience working in the Sabah construction industry, and raised a number of issues pertinent to contractors in Sabah working on Government infrastructure projects. We greatly benefited from Dato Nik's wisdom, and we are grateful to Dato Nik taking time off from his busy schedule to meet with us. It is heartening to hear from Dato Nik that the Sabah portion of the Pan Borneo Highway has finally recommenced work, and we share Dato Nik's enthusiasm in the future of Borneo, including the prospective spill-over effect from the development of Nusantara, the new capital of the Republic of Indonesia on Borneo Island. Our grateful thanks to En Ahmed Zaharani Yusof Omar, Secretary of Persatuan Kontraktor Bumiputra Malaysia who have arranged our meeting with Dato Nik. Kami amat berbesar hati kerana berpeluang bertemu dengan Dato Nik Nazif Nik zawawi, Presiden Persatuan Kontraktor Bumiputra Malaysia Sabah di Kota Kinabalu, di Le Meridian KK pada 26.09.2024. Dengan jadual beliau yang amat padat, kami amat bersyukur kerana Dato dapat meluangkan masa bersama kami untuk berkongsi cerita dan pengalaman beliau dalam bidang pembinaan di Sabah. Beliau juga ada membangkitkan beberapa isu penting berkaitan dengan kontraktor-kontraktor di Sabah yang terlibat dalam projek infrastruktur Kerajaan. In conjunction with our participation in the inaugural BICAM ADR Summit in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, we’re thrilled to share that our full day seminar held on 25.09.2024 Le Meridian Kota Kinabalu, Sabah on EOT and Loss & Expense claims was a success, marking a significant milestone as we ventured outside our usual West Malaysia based venues and held our first seminar in beautiful Kota Kinabalu. We had more participants than we expected, and the energy in the room was incredible. It was wonderful to see everyone getting involved. While many participants seemed not to be fully aware of the contract provisions related to these topics, their eagerness to learn and engage was truly inspiring! A huge thank you to all participants for making this event memorable. Your insights and questions enriched our discussions, and we’re excited to continue this journey of learning together.
