Good to see that we are starting the year off with some high level discussions #crisis #crisismanagement #Malaysia #asean #crisiscommunications #governmentrelations
A quick chat with the Minister of Communication YB Fahmi Fadzil and Nordin Abdullah The regulatory environment is shifting in Malaysia, one area that has seen considerable developments is the social media and media ecosystems. The question that needs to be addressed from a corporate sector is how are these changes being monitored and managed for the benefit of stakeholders? The Malaysia Global Business Forum advocates for successful outcomes for its members while providing a powerful platform to communicate with stakeholders in government, community and the broader business community. This together with an attention to detail ensures that members will see the MGBF as part of its “suite of strategic solutions” in the dynamic business environment that is Malaysia and ASEAN. The next event will be the MGBF Roundtable: Corporate Community Involvement in Sports that will focus on the emerging area of Corporate Community Involvement in Sports. The goal of the roundtable to understand the gaps in the corporate – community ecosystem and how involvement in sports by the corporate sector will create value in terms of community engagement, communications, stakeholder management and meeting CSR goals. With the hike in insurance costs in Malaysia, hopefully there will be a shift in thinking, prevention is better than cure. Something that I have always been a big fan of is Hyperbaric oxygen therapy, i first used it after getting dengue. HBOT has emerged as a groundbreaking treatment blending innovation with natural healing. Known for its link to Japan’s wellness philosophy, this therapy leverages the power of oxygen to rejuvenate the body, improve circulation, and enhance overall vitality. HBOT is a treatment that saturates the body with high oxygen concentrations, promoting cellular repair and reducing inflammation. It helps accelerate recovery, enhance mental clarity, and boost physical performance by improving oxygen flow throughout the body. Good to see Nordin Abdullah speaking on BFM 89.9 - The Business Station the leading business radio in Malaysia #media #analysis #communications #business
I'm someone who is pro-trade, it's almost absurd that there are two sides to this discussion, in my mind at least. The benefits of trade and how it leads to investment and in turn jobs that reduce poverty in my mind are a clear line. All little ducks lined up waiting to be dealt with one after the other in a lovely economic metaphor. Yet some will say it can lead to job losses caused by foreign competition, companies using countries with substandard working conditions or lack of environmental control. Our friends in the protectionist camp often draw on the strength of autarkic sentiments, which is the state of being self-sufficient at the national level. Which is a great place to play the game for some of political types looking to whip up votes in an election year. So in the final analysis or the analysis thus far, is that well regulated trade that is underpinned by the elements of sustainability is the way forward. An FTA could be a document to capture these ideas. Let me know what you think. This is the brief from BFM around the discussion of free trade agreements: Malaysia is looking to expand its free trade agreements with bilateral partners, including the UAE and Canada as well as reviving long-stalled negotiations with the European Union. Do FTAs still hold appeal in an era of deglobalisation? We discuss this with business commentator Nordin Abdullah. https://lnkd.in/gnvQ6hbq Thank you BFM 89.9 - The Business Station for the opportunity to share a few ideas around this important topic. *PS. I promised someone to look at this issue through the lens of Malaysia and BRICS but it will have to be saved for another day. My apologies, it will have to be on another day. #fta #freetrade #Malaysia #asean #EU #UAE #Canada #EuropeanUnion #election #USA

Good to see Nordin Abdullah speaking at this high level event in Kuching Sarawak #communication #speaker #business #Asia
The challenges of geography are felt most by those who have the most geography to consider, image the size of Sarawak, the various terrains and the diversity of its people just to name a few elements. That's what made participating in the "UKAS Making Connections 2024" dialogue session organized by Sarawak Public Communication Unit fondly known as UKAS, both meaningful and an opportunity to learn about the unique scenario that Sarawak finds itself in. Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier's Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and UKAS) Datuk Abdullah Saidol said that communication should be carried out according to the context of Sarawak, which is to know the needs of the people in the state, whether they are urban or rural. My observation was towards human nature and development, ironically the more developed a population becomes the more it will have a propensity to complain and to communicate that complaint either to an agency or on social media. This is the challenge that Sarawak must face as they have achieved amazing development in recent years and now with that success they must effectively communicate to all stakeholders. The session was joined by key leaders from the government including Sarawak Government Deputy Secretary (Operations) Datu Hii Chang Kee and UKAS Director Samuel Simon As always, looking forward to my next trip to Sarawak. #sarawak #sustainabledevelopment #communications #resilence #malaysia #asean

Plenty being discussed about Budget 2025 just released by the government in Malaysia. My initial thoughts are to the fact that it takes the whole year to prepare and so many people and agencies contribute to it. Let's take time to thank the nameless researchers and analysts who work to get this done. The idea of reducing the impact of cost of living crisis through effective government spending and increased productivity is very much from the supply side economics playbook. For this problem I think it's the way to go, let's see if there is enough resources available to make a considerable impact. As a way to augment these funds I'm suggesting an increased use of Islamic funds especially for Halal food production and to target close to market production. Let me know what you think. Thank you to Jessy Chahal and Gerard Ratnam together with the team at Bernama TV 🇲🇾 for their English language coverage of the budget which is critical for the foreign investors and diplomatic community in the country. The way we eat hasn't really changed since, well year dot, but the way we consume has changed in leaps and bounds over the last few years. That change is going to continue at an expanding rate and so to is the rate of change. The digital economy and the F&B industry are going to continue to find better ways to improve the dining experience and for retailers that means more innovative ways to get you to spend money. I will let Murugason R. Thangaratnam discuss what this means to the cyber criminals and policy issues related to data protection. The interesting idea that emerged during the discussion was the idea of 'nostalgia' and the tech we use, that came from Arash Aalaei the Founder and CEO of Menumiz. Check out the article to see what he was thinking in this area. Thank you to NURUL NAJMIN for your coverage in the Malaysian Reserve. Thank you to Arash Aalaei and the team at menumiz™ (AU) + menumiz™ (MY) for your support of this important roundtable.
