🌏Driving the Future of Student Mobility: Jan Drew Speaks at AAED 2024 in Laos Our Director, Jan Drew, recently had the privilege of moderating and speaking at the AAED 2024 conference in Vientiane, Laos about ‘Building Student Mobility Between ASEAN and Australia - Challenges and Opportunities’. Her talk focused on the need to break down silos in the international education industry and foster stronger engagement between Australia and the ASEAN region. Key highlights included: 🔑 Encouraging Australian universities to align their strategies with the government's DFAT Invested 2040 strategy. 🔑 Recognising the ASEAN University Network (AUN) and its collaborative potential across 30 core universities and 193 associate members. 🔑 Leveraging the networks of under-resourced youth-led organisations for relationship building across ASEAN. 🔑 Exploring synergies between alumni, recruitment, and professional networks. Jan also raised concerns about the future of the New Colombo Plan (NCP). While the programme has significantly boosted Australian students’ international experience, upcoming reforms—such as extended minimum durations and mandatory language components—pose barriers to accessibility and effectiveness. As Jan highlighted, short-term study tours, while brief, are transformative and often inspire students to pursue longer exchanges or internships in ASEAN countries. With the 2025 changes approaching, it’s critical to advocate for strategies that maintain inclusivity and impact in outward student mobility. 🌏 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽𝘀, 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗢𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀! We recently had the pleasure of welcoming Shania F.B, the Internship Program Coordinator from Griffith Asia Institute to Kuala Lumpur as part of the Griffith Asian Business Internships (GABI) Program.  On her second day in Malaysia, we hosted Shania for a welcome dinner and a tour of our valued host companies, led by our Internship Manager, Siti Nur Hawa Hassan. We extend our heartfelt thanks to BERSIH, Malaysia Australia Business Council (MABC), Angstrohm Digital, Maharani Energy Gateway, and Glenreagh Sdn. Bhd. for their warm hospitality and engaging discussions.  During her visit, Shania explored the vibrant city of Kuala Lumpur, experienced the iconic Petronas Towers, and sampled Malaysia's diverse and delicious cuisine. Beyond the cultural immersion, she gained invaluable insights into the dynamic opportunities Malaysia offers across industries and witnessed the impactful experiences of interns placed with our host companies.  At The Global Student, we’re dedicated to cultivating strong partnerships and delivering meaningful internship experiences.
