  • Not too long ago, the path to success seemed simple: get a degree, find a stable job and stay till retirement. Fast forward to today, things couldn’t be more different. Entrepreneurs and freelancers are redefining careers and transforming the job landscape. But what does this mean for businesses and large corporations? Should they feel threatened, or could these innovative newcomers be the boost they never knew they needed? In the latest StarBiz 7 article, 'Of big boys and gig drivers,' TM R&D CEO Dr. Sharlene Thiagarajah explores how collaborating with entrepreneurs can open up new possibilities and why companies should take notice. Nvidia for example, built an ecosystem around its GPUs and it sparked innovation worldwide. Malaysian businesses can achieve the same if they embrace a similar mindset. And this isn’t just about post-graduation opportunities. It’s about preparing students now for the future of work. At TM R&D, we teamed up with Multimedia University to empower students to create digital solutions on our Open Innovation Platform (OIP), helping them develop skills and mindsets that matter in today’s digital world. Together, corporations and entrepreneurs can drive innovation faster than ever. • We often hear about elevating customer service by adding extra touches, but what if customers only want efficiency, accuracy, and simplicity? Imagine losing your luggage during a transit flight—would you want to spend 20 minutes on the phone, being passed around without a solution? Here’s a thought. What if Generative AI can filter through data, process information and determine exactly where your luggage might be? Wouldn’t that be the epitome of perfect customer service? In the latest StarBiz 7 article, "The Ultimate Butler," TM R&D CEO Dr. Sharlene Thiagarajah discusses how Generative AI isn't just about replacing humans—it’s about empowering them. AI can handle routine tasks and sift through vast amounts of data instantly, while human agents bring empathy and real solutions to the table. Companies like KFC and eBay are already using AI to streamline services, but the future lies in combining human expertise with AI's efficiency. With the right balance, Gen AI becomes a reliable sidekick, enhancing customer satisfaction and making businesses thrive. • The topic of environmental sustainability has always been close to our hearts. At the recent 'Digital Technology for Climate Governance' event, hosted by Multimedia University in conjunction with the National Climate Governance Summit 2024, we were truly inspired. TM R&D CEO, Dr. Sharlene Thiagarajah, was invited to participate in a panel discussion on 'Harnessing Digital Technology for Climate Action.' The session provided valuable insights into the intersection of digital technology and climate governance as well as exploring practical applications and future directions for leveraging innovation to drive sustainable environmental practices. During the session, Dr. Sharlene outlined three key pillars of climate governance: 𝗠𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, which focuses on managing the immediate risks of climate change; 𝗔𝗱𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, aimed at building resilience within the economy and ensuring self-sufficiency knowing that the climate risk is coming; and 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, which emphasises adopting solutions in a way that does not negatively impact businesses or the economy. Dr. Sharlene also highlighted the critical role of digital technology in advancing these pillars, using TM R&D's Smart Water Integrated Management System (SWIMS) as an example. SWIMS is a homegrown solution that provides real-time monitoring and data analysis of water resources, helps manage water consumption, detects water leakages and optimises water distribution. At the event, we also showcased two of our innovative solutions: - 𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗗𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗯𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱 – enabling data-driven decision-making for forestry management. - 𝗔𝗜 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗻 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗧𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀 – empowering more efficient and accurate carbon footprint tracking. These solutions represent our commitment to leveraging technology for a greener future, in alignment with global climate goals. Together, we are building a better tomorrow! #TMRND #ClimateAction #DigitalInnovation #Sustainability #SmartForestry #GreenTechnology #NCGS2024 #DigitalForGood
