During the Ming Dynasty, it belonged to Mingyu Fang. He Shen's ancestors were of the Zheng Hongqi (Plain Red Banner) clan. After entering the Pass, they lived in Donkey Meat Hutong. In the 41st year of Qianlong's reign (1776), He Shen was promoted from Imperial Guard and Governor to Assistant Minister of the Ministry of Revenue and Grand Councilor. Emperor Qianlong granted him a vast plot of land near the Three Bridges at Shichahai. According to the "Draft of the Records of Beijing's Hutongs and Alleys", Chelb, the third-class Wei Jing Bo, lived in this Hutong. The Zheng Hongqi School was once located in Donkey Meat Hutong, and later moved to Gaojing Hutong near Xizhimennei. After 1911, it was homophonically called Lilu Hutong. In 1965, it was merged into Nanjing'er Hutong.
