This event was not only a gathering of brilliant minds but also a powerful reminder of the incredible resilience, skill, and leadership that women bring to the mining industry. This month we celebrated the 7th anniversary of the Women in Mining Association of Namibia(WiMAN) with a powerful summit. The summit particularly focused on the Entrepreneurial Women in Mining. It was a day of inspiration, knowledge-sharing, and a renewed commitment to the empowerment of women in the mining industry. We discussed the critical role women play in driving economic growth, the challenges they face, and the solutions needed to create a more inclusive future. Key Takeaways: 💎Women are increasingly becoming catalysts for economic growth, particularly in Africa. 💎We must address challenges like the lack of financial inclusion (access to funding) to empower women entrepreneurs. 💎Government, the private sector, and civil society must work together to create a more equitable mining industry. Our patron, Honorable Kornelia Shilunga, Deputy Minister of Ministry of Mines and Energy Namibia (MME) was present and expressed her pride in the progress we have achieved. I was joined by my sisters Pascaline Balbine MAKANI OMGBA, Georgette B. Sakyi-Addo and Khosi Sibisi to make this a truly remarkable event and added a pan-african flavor to the celebrations! After all, Women in Mining Association of Namibia(WiMAN) is a proud member of the Association of Women in Mining in Africa 🙌🏼 Having Martha Murorua the Managing Director of Nedbank Namibia , in attendance was incredibly meaningful to me—I’ve always admired her. There’s just something inspiring about a woman from a small town making it big! I also deeply appreciated the heartfelt speech from Zebra Kasete President of the Chamber of Mines Namibia as well as the opening statement by Veston Malango, the Chamber’s CEO. I was super excited to welcome Zeinab El-Sayed from the Investing in African Mining Indaba to Namibia…we will definitely be seeing a whole lot more of her soon😉 We could not have pulled this summit off without the unwavering support and incredible hard work of Impact Desk, Loide Invictus Nantinda and Hilda Basson-Namundjebo who handled the BHS stress with impeccable professionalism and grace. Through it all, Nora Ndopu and Charlot Williams members of the WiMAN board reminded me daily of why we do what we do❤️ Reflecting on our Women in Mining Summit, I'm filled with renewed purpose and hope.
