Agtech || Environmental Sustainability || Exports

As the founder of Agroxchange Technology Services Ltd, an agtech startup driven by a commitment to enhancing farmer incomes through data-driven approaches, I’ve been dedicated to building solutions that harness earth observation, precision agriculture, extension services, and environmentally sustainable farming practices. Our mission has always been to empower farmers—our primary customers—with opportunities for substantial income growth, including foreign exchange earnings. Initially, it was a challenge to align our business model with the unique needs of rural farmers, particularly considering the technology gaps, limited exposure to geospatial data, financial constraints, and the challenges of low crop yields often linked to non-sustainable practices. With a career in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) spanning two decades across the Middle East, the Caribbean, the UK, and West Africa, I’ve leveraged this experience alongside the support of dedicated team members (Oluwatomiwo Famusudo, Olabamide Kayode-Adedeji, Michael Esuku, James Oluwadare), and mentors (Oluseye Soyode-Johnson and Olutayo David Oyawale) to grow Agroxchange from a GPS mapping and earth observation data analytics provider to a hands-on agricultural producer, partnering with Ganic Foods founder Deji Akinyanju in cassava and soybeans production. Our partnership with EOS DATA ANALYTICS—with guidance from Rim Elijah—has been a game-changer, helping us shape Agroxchange’s focus on impactful earth observation practices. These milestones have solidified Agroxchange’s role as both an agtech service provider and farmer, delivering practical, data-driven solutions that derisk crop production and promote sustainable practices. Participation in the NSIA: Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority Innovation Accelerator and joining the Draper University Fall Cohort has been both a privilege and a transformational experience. Listening to Draper University’s founder Tim Draper and connecting with visionaries like Rajeev Behera has reinforced Agroxchange’s foundation in navigating the complex landscapes of VC funding and partnerships. Over the past few days at TechCrunch, meeting inspiring VCs like Christopher Le and fellow agtech entrepreneurs like Styn Nieuwenhuis has been invaluable. As I continue my journey at Draper University, I look forward to deepening my learning, building meaningful partnerships, and proudly representing Agroxchange in the global agtech community. #Agroxchange #Agtech #SustainableFarming #GIS #EarthObservation #DraperUniversity #TechCrunch #Innovation

Dele Momodu did something cool for his birthday. Instead of hosting a ball, he gathered Nigeria's elite and intellectuals in a room to exchange ideas. The Keynote speaker Prof. Bartholomew Nnaji mentioned Carbon Exchange. He said no company in Nigeria was doing it. He was dead wrong. You see, Jane Egerton-Idehen the MD/CEO and her team at the NIGERIAN COMMUNICATIONS SATELLITE LIMITED (NIGCOMSAT) (NIGCOMSAT) are pioneers of Africa's first Accelerator program that leverages satellite technology to address everyday challenges across various sectors, ranging from space-tech, agri-tech, fintech, ed-tech, health-tech, to cybersecurity. Broad Capital Advisory happily guided CarbonEx to be the only Company in Nigeria that can use The DMVRT methodology for Carbon tracking and trading. Countries are not rich in proportion to their natural resources. If they were, Russia would now be the richest country in the world. Angola would be very rich, and there are many other countries which have a lot of natural resources but they have not had an enterprise economy to develop those resources” A quote from Margaret Thatcher. Nigerians have always conflated wealth as a verb with wealth in the context of finance and cash flow. We often say we have a wealth of resources and our politicians boast about how rich Nigeria is in terms of vast resources. My question is ,how do we know we have vast resources if we can’t even use our knowledge to manage the resources? Now let’s talk money. According to Investopedia, in August 2018, Apple Inc. (AAPL) became the world's first company to record a market capitalization of $1 trillion and roughly two years later, became the first publicly traded U.S. company to surpass $2 trillion. As of March 15, 2021, Apple's market cap increased to $2.08 trillion. To put that staggering $2 trillion figure in context, It is larger than the combined GDP of over 40 subsaharan African countries. One company worth more than the two thirds of Africa, with the wealth of resources. What an irony. Nigeria has experienced massive loss in investment and human capital to the west following the japa syndrome. Although the intellectual capital required to drive the enterprise or commerce that will unlock the real wealth from natural resources in Nigeria is present but the enabling business environment and government support required to catalyse transformative economic opportunities is lacking NIGERIAN COMMUNICATIONS SATELLITE LIMITED (NIGCOMSAT) under the strategic leadership of Jane Egerton-Idehen , launched a startup accelerator to strengthen the role of tech startups in Nigeriaa commercial landscape in the context of space. Agroxchange Technology Services Ltd is delighted to announce our selection and participation in the accelerator programme. We hope to build an MVP that will enable the use of Earth observation and geospatial data in upstream ,midstream and downstream agriculture value chain. The resources are locked in the ground and above it as Nigerians we need commerce to unlock the real wealth. The Government does not have any business doing business.
