It's been sexy for African based or operating startups to be registered and incorporated in Delaware. And for the longest time they haven’t really had a choice or better alternative While it makes sense for a lot of them — there are likely a large percentage for whom it doesn't. I've been hearing about Itana for quite a while now from friends like Iyinoluwa Aboyeji, Kola A. and Coco Liu. It was good to hang out with Luqman Edu and learn more about progress to date and upcoming plans in a laid back environment in a cold wet London. I even got to catch up with friends Yvonne Bajela, Sthembile Nkabinde and Joe Kinvi. What are they building? Africa's first digital special economic zone (starting) in Nigeria for tech. What do you get? / Set up your business in the zone, completely online / Operate in foreign currencies — USD, GBP, EUR, LIR, YEN, ZAR / Leverage tax benefits for qualified businesses / Priority visa processing for you and your team. No expat quota / Seamlessly set up your banking operations / Access the business marketplace of verified specialists to support your expansion / Dedicated support team to help you navigate the business processes and licensing requirements If applicable, check it…

  • 🇳🇬 Nigeria is set for a 3.46% GDP growth in 2025, according to the African Development Bank Group, or 4.17%, according to the Central Bank of Nigeria. While moderate compared to previous years, this growth presents significant opportunities across various sectors, particularly for digital businesses. The digital economy's contribution to GDP peaked at an unprecedented 19.78% in Q2 2024, marking a significant increase from its 16.66% peak in 2023. This growth was driven by a tech-savvy youth population, increasing smartphone penetration, and supportive government policies. Despite inflation (34.8% in December 2024), naira depreciation (-42.1 %), and increased energy costs, strategic sectors are positioned for strong opportunities. In this article, we set the stage for Nigeria's economic context. Then, we examine the key sectors poised for growth and highlight how digital entrepreneurs can capitalize on emerging trends.
