I was proud to inaugurate the national body of the Association of Graduate Economics Students (AGES) on behalf of the Nigerian Economic Society, yesterday, Sunday 16th February, 2025. The AGES is the umbrella body for all graduate Economics students in all Nigerian universities and in the Diaspora. It is the graduate students equivalent of the Nigerian Association of Economics Students (NESA), which is the umbrella body for undergraduates. The AGES at the national level is long overdue. It will help to build the capacity of our graduate students through workshops, training programmes, networking, collaboration, mentorship and fellowships. I appeal to our graduate Economics Students to join this Association. I also appeal to the management of our departments of economics in all Nigerian universities to support the establishment of AGES in their departments just like NESA. Together we can guarantee the pipeline for the flow of qualified economists who would be lecturers, researchers, policy advisors, and developments agents in Nigeria in the future. I must thank Dr Chukwunonso Ekesiobi, my SA, Students Affairs, and the interim executives of AGES led by Evaristus Ikpa and his vice Oyeleke Famade for their roles in berthing this Association. I have strong faith in their capacities to deliver a strong AGES for the NES and the future of economics profession in Nigeria. #NigerianEconomicSociety #nes #AGES #NESA #graduateeconomicstudents #cbn #Nigerianuniversities.
