Supporting Communities in Maiduguri Oxfam, in collaboration with Center for Advocacy, Transparency and Accountability Initiative (CATAI) and CRUDAN HQ and the Borno State government, is making strides to support the reintegration of flood-affected populations in Maiduguri. Through our hygiene kit distribution initiative, we have successfully reached 1,500 households, providing essential items to improve their well-being and resilience. In parallel, we launched Post-Distribution Monitoring (PDM) for our Multipurpose Cash Assistance program. During this activity, our Country Director, John Makina, joined the response team on the ground, engaging with project participants and hearing their stories firsthand. One such story is from Fatima (52), a single mother of three, who shared: "When my daughter told me she had seen the alert, I was happy because I could repair the broken part of the house. I also bought foodstuffs with a portion of the money and have gotten school uniforms and paid the fees of my youngest child. The money came at the right time for me." We remain committed to providing life-saving assistance through Cash Transfers, Hygiene Kits, Non-Food Items, and WASH activities while ensuring that our support aligns with community needs. Looking ahead, we are gearing up to launch a Hygiene Promotion Campaign, working closely with the Borno State Ministries of Environment, Water Resources, and Information & Orientation to promote better hygiene practices. Together, we are making a difference. #OxfamFloodResponse #BornoFloodRelief #CATAI #CRUDAN #MaiduguriFlood #dutchrelief

The #EIAActNG, established in 1992, was created with the noble goal of addressing environmental risks and safeguarding the rights of host communities during the planning and implementation of projects. Over the past 32 years, however, significant changes have occurred in environmental awareness, community engagement, and the complexities of project development. It is crucial to evaluate the effectiveness of the Act and consider necessary amendments that align with contemporary challenges and trends. To kickstart this important dialogue, we convened a meeting yesterday with key stakeholders, including environmental experts, community representatives, government officials, and industry leaders. Together, we engaged in an in-depth discussion focusing on the strengths and weaknesses of the current legislation. We addressed the successes we have seen as well as the shortcomings that have emerged. Our aim is to identify the specific actions needed to create a comprehensive amendment to the law. This revised legislation should reflect the current realities of environmental protection and the rights of communities impacted by projects. By fostering this collaborative approach, we hope to ensure that the new legislation effectively addresses modern environmental concerns and upholds the rights of all stakeholders involved. International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Yesterday, we joined the global call to amplify the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future where everyone thrives equitably. In partnership with Movement Beyond Walls, Plan International Nigeria, and Catholic Relief Services, with support from the European Union, we hosted an Artvocacy event to empower people with disabilities to reimagine a future they can lead. Participants engaged in activities like identifying barriers to inclusion, exploring the social model of disability, practicing mindful movement, and expressing their aspirations through art, fostering self-expression and empowerment. Together, we can tear down the walls and barriers standing in the way of equity and inclusion. #InternationalDayOfPersonsWithDisabilities #InclusionMatters #BreakingBarriers #artvocacy #DisabilityRights #InclusiveLeadership #SustainableFuture #thefutureisequal Repost from Plan Nigeria

This recognition highlights our relentless efforts to amplify the voices of persons with disabilities (PWDs) and drive inclusion across Nigeria. Through the VOICE Project, we have worked tirelessly to: ✅ Amplify Issues: Elevate the unique challenges PWDs face, ensuring they are heard and addressed at every level of decision-making. ✅ Creating Change: Collaborate with communities, organisations, and policymakers to create spaces where PWDs are represented and empowered. ✅ Breaking Stereotypes: Helping people see abilities, not disabilities, and treat everyone with respect. We extend our deepest gratitude to: - The Federal House of Representatives Committee on Disability Matters for recognising our work and for their commitment to driving change. - Our dedicated partners, stakeholders, and supporters who have stood by us in this journey. - The resilient individuals with disabilities whose courage and stories inspire us to do more every day. - To Ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken | Netherlands in Nigeria for the huge support to progress and changes we have made. International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women This year, we are proud to amplify Oxfam’s campaign: Feminist Solutions for a Fair World under the hashtag #UniteForFairChange. This initiative calls for a feminist power shift to combat systemic violence rooted in patriarchy, capitalism, and racism – and to create a world where care, well-being, and freedom are prioritized over profit and privilege. The campaign envisions a future free from gender-based violence, where women, girls, and queer people are valued and empowered in economic, climate, and social policies. How you can get involved: 👉 Explore and share the campaign visuals 👉 Amplify the message using the hashtag #UniteForFairChange. 👉 Collaborate, discuss, and stand together for feminist and decolonial solutions that place people and the planet above profit. Naomi Takigh: Why Gender Matters in Climate Action In Benue State, Nigeria, Naomi Takigh is a smallholder farmer facing the growing challenges of climate change. From unpredictable weather patterns to declining crop yields, the burden is immense. Yet, Naomi continues to adapt and persevere, demonstrating the resilience of women farmers everywhere. Today at COP29, discussions on Gender in Transparency highlight why voices like Naomi’s are essential to shaping effective climate policies. Gender-responsive climate reporting ensures we address the unique barriers women face while unlocking their potential to lead sustainable solutions. As countries (esp.
