🌍 Africa’s Call for Climate Justice at COP29: A $1.3 Trillion Opportunity 🌱 The East African report on COP29 highlights Africa’s unified demand for climate justice and the transformative potential of the $1.3 trillion market in sustainable solutions. At Sabi, we believe that addressing climate change requires supporting the informal merchants and businesses that form the backbone of Africa’s economy. Climate tech for supply chains plays a pivotal role in this transformation: ✅ Enabling sustainable financing for small merchants, ensuring they can grow without increasing environmental harm. ✅ Enhancing transparency and traceability from farm to market, helping global buyers make ethical and sustainable choices. ✅ Reducing waste and inefficiencies, so that every dollar invested has maximum impact. Africa’s merchants and traders are not just participants in the economy; they are catalysts for inclusive, sustainable growth. Sabi is committed to building the tools they need to thrive in this green transition. Great share by SEMAFOR: As the world focuses on climate justice, let’s make sure the informal sector isn’t left behind—because the future of global commerce is sustainable, inclusive, and powered by technology. 🌟 CC: Ademola Adesina Anu Adedoyin Adasolum Sanjeev Kulkarni Funto Faleye Moyosola Okoye Jordan Valdés Alexandre #COP29 #ClimateJustice #SustainableCommerce #SupplyChainTech #AfricaRising

I'm thrilled to collaborate with Nathan Williams and the team at Minespider on this. At Sabi, we're revolutionizing African commodity supply chain transparency. Under the leadership of our Head of ESG and Sustainability, Sanjeev Kulkarni, we've developed a comprehensive tracking framework that follows commodities from origin to export, capturing crucial ESG metrics including: Environmental and climate impacts Social and human rights considerations Compliance with local laws and global standards (OECD, Fairtrade, Fairmined) Independent audits and ratings By partnering with Minespider's blockchain platform, we're creating an immutable record of this data, effectively destigmatizing African supply chains for: Critical minerals powering global electrification: lithium, copper, monazite, nickel, rare earths Agricultural products: cocoa, cashew This collaboration empowers refiners and downstream buyers with transparent, verifiable data on their supply chain intermediaries. 💸 How can African startups maintain consumer loyalty as spending habits shift? With the Naira’s 55% drop against the dollar in 2023 and Kenya’s Shilling gaining strength in 2024, African currencies have shown mixed performance lately. As a result, consumers are focusing more on essentials and cutting back on non-essential online purchases, which affects e-commerce sales value. This presents both challenges and opportunities: while digital commerce adoption may face setbacks, startups with a local focus could see growth. Startups that prioritize local production and distribution can thrive in this environment. For instance, platforms like Sabi empower informal merchants by providing essential resources and support, enabling them to connect with consumers effectively. By offering value close to home, these startups may build stronger consumer loyalty. We are honored to be featured in SEMAFOR Africa for our efforts in supporting Nigeria's growing value-added supply chain for critical minerals, particularly lithium. At Sabi, our journey began in 2021 with a vision to bridge the gap in the informal sector by connecting suppliers and buyers through innovative technology. Our recent partnerships with Snowball Holdings (Italy) and Transition Resources (US) mark a significant milestone. We are proud to be playing a crucial role in helping Nigeria transition from a raw materials exporter to a key player in the global energy transition. Leveraging our software, we ensure consistent supply from small-scale miners while maintaining compliance with international standards for ethical and sustainable sourcing. As we continue to grow, we remain committed to our mission of sustainability and economic growth in Africa. By working closely with our partners and small-scale miners, we are building a robust value chain that supports the global energy transition. Thank you to SEMAFOR Africa for recognizing our work. When my wife Shea Loewen Lazarow graduated law school, her thesis was on human rights in supply chains in Africa (particularly re Coltan in the Congo). This is a MASSIVE and far too often unspoken problem around the world. Loved seeing some of the new initiatives about Fluent Ventures portfolio company Sabi in SEMAFOR. Sabi is helping to connect small-scale lithium miners in Nigeria, and soon many other countries across the continent including Zambia and Tanzania, with international processors—ensuring a reliable supply chain while driving local value-addition and economic growth. Their recent partnerships with Snowball Holdings (Italy) and Transition Resources (US) to support lithium processing plants in Nigeria mark a significant step toward solidifying Africa’s position in the cleantech space. With demand for lithium expected to rise 13-fold by 2040, Sabi’s innovative platform TRACE is already leading the charge to ensure sustainability and compliance with global standards. Kudos Anu Adedoyin Adasolum, Ademola Adesina and the full team. cc Jordan Valdés Jonathan Kirschner Lexi Novitske, CFA Carlos Alonso-Torras Pardon Makumbe Daniel Shatz Eleanor Atkeson Ed Marcum Jill Macari https://lnkd.in/gU-qXHAA
