Earlier this month, I had the privilege of attending the Stakeholders Retreat on the Cybercrime Legal Framework in Nigeria hosted by the Federal Ministry of Justice Cybercrimes Prosecution Units Council of Europe and the Nigeria Identity for Development Project, where experts from various sectors came together to tackle the pressing challenges of cybercrime. It was a truly enriching experience, and I was honoured to facilitate an engaging session focused on critical issues such as online child exploitation, emerging technologies, and the need to harmonise cybersecurity laws with existing legislation. The discussions during the session provided invaluable insights into the delicate balance between security and privacy, the complexities of jurisdiction in cyberspace, and the ongoing need to protect freedom of expression in the digital age. As we continue working towards building a comprehensive legal framework for Nigeria, one thing is abundantly clear: collaboration across government, the private sector, and civil society is essential. I’m grateful for the knowledge shared and energized by the path forward. There’s much to be done, but I’m excited about the potential for meaningful progress!
