About us
The Northern District of California stretches from Del Norte County in the north to Monterey County in the south. The District contains three major metropolitan areas in San Francisco, Oakland and San Jose; an expanse of suburban and rural area; and more than 300 public companies centered on Silicon Valley. Nearly 9 million people live, work, and raise their families in the Northern District of California. In an effort to help protect these individuals, the United States Attorney's Office prosecutes violations of federal law and represents the federal government in virtually all litigation involving the United States in the District. The attorneys who work in the office prosecute criminal violations, civil lawsuits against the government, and litigate actions to collect judgments and restitution on behalf of victims and taxpayers.

On November 14, 2024, U.S. Attorneys Ismail Ramsey (NDCA) and Phil Talbert (EDCA) came together with an impressive array of senior executive federal and state law enforcement officials, business and non-profit leaders, task forces and working groups to relaunch the NDCA Annual Human Trafficking Executives’ Forum. We jointly hosted the forum with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Administration for Children and Families (HHS ACF), the National Council of Jewish Women, the San Francisco Collaborative Against Human Trafficking, and the Northern California Regional Intelligence Center - NCRIC/High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area -HIDTA, bringing together regional leaders whose collaboration and cooperation is essential to eradicating human trafficking. Over 100 regional leaders and subject matter experts were in attendance. Senior law enforcement speakers and attendees included Special Agents in Charge Robert Tripp (FBI), Sid P. (FBI), and Tatum K. (HSI); Director Mike Sena; Regional Administrator Pete Weldy (HHS ACF); representatives from eight regional District Attorney offices (including District Attorneys Jeff Rosen (Santa Clara), Diana Becton (Contra Costa), Brooke Jenkins (San Francisco), Carla Rodriguez (Sonoma), and LORI FRUGOLI (Marin)); Inspector in Charge Steve Sherwood (USPIS); Chief U.S. Probation Officer Chris C.; Police Chiefs William Scott (SFPD) and Paul Joseph (SJPD), and Assistant Chief James Beere (OPD); and representatives from the California Attorney General’s Office, the U.S. Department of State, the U.S. Department of Labor, and the Internal Revenue Service. Panel speakers included industry and community leaders Antonia Lavine and Benita Hopkins (SFCAHT), Sharan Dhanoa (South Bay Coalition to End Human Trafficking), Kenny Hansmire (National Child ID Program), David Burrus (FIFA World Cup), Clifton Clark (Westin St. Francis), Papia Gambelin (United Airlines), Alex Bastian (Hotel Council of San Francisco), Laurie Thomas (Golden Gate Restaurant Association), Perla Flores (Community Solutions) Ashlie Bryant (3Strands Global), and Amba Johnson (Oakland Unified School District). Many thanks to AUSAs Annemarie Conroy, JD, MA (Law Enforcement Coordinator/Director of External Affairs) and Marissa Harris (Human Trafficking Coordinator) for spearheading the event, moderating discussions, and coordinating with numerous individuals and organizations to ensure an insightful and powerful program.

On October 30, 2004, Congress passed the Crime Victims’ Rights Act. This law provides people who have been victimized by crime legally enforceable guarantees, including the right to be heard, the right not to be excluded from public proceedings, and the right to proceedings free from unreasonable delay. Please join us in taking a moment to reflect on the passage of this landmark legislation. For more information, see: https://lnkd.in/d-QEf8rU

Congratulations to Assistant U.S. Attorney Jonathan Lee, who was recently awarded the local Federal Bar Association's 2024 Chapter Achievement Award for his tremendous efforts in bringing about the Secretary of the Navy's full exoneration of 256 African-American sailors who had been unjustly court-martialed after the 1944 explosion at the Port Chicago Naval Magazine in present-day Contra Costa County.
