Try to make sure that pictures do not have words on them when we use them in an app or website. Putting text in pictures can make it hard for some people to use them, especially if they need to change the size or colors of the words. This means they might miss out on important info. To fix this, we should try to keep text separate from pictures. In that way, people can adjust the words to fit their needs, like making them bigger or changing the colors. This makes apps more inclusive for everyone. Ensuring images contain accessibility labels is crucial for users relying on assistive technologies. These labels provide descriptions of images to screen reader users, ensuring an inclusive experience. By incorporating accessibility labels, we empower individuals using assistive technologies to fully comprehend the content of images. Lack of labels can result in exclusion of important information for these users, highlighting the significance of fixing these issue. Testing for accessibility labels can be integrated into development processes. Utilize automated testing tools like the Abra Test Engine for efficient detection of unlabeled images. Additionally, manual testing involving screen reader navigation ensures accurate labeling. Take action today! I was interviewed by Dominique Nauroy about mobile accessibility for an article on Digital Accessibility Luxembourg. He asked seven interesting questions: 1. When, and why, did you become interested in digital accessibility? 2. You are a member of the Mobile Accessibility Task Force at the W3C: what is its current goal? 3. What is your view on app accessibility? Does it tend to improve over time? 4. What are the most common issues you encounter? 5. Is developing apps for portrait and landscape mode really that complicated? 6. You offer a software solution to analyze the accessibility of an Android or iOS app from macOS: how many criteria of the European standard can be automatically analyzed? 7. Do you notice a difference between public sector apps and apps from private companies? Read my answers in the article: https://lnkd.in/e-G-qzsa

Chapter 11 Dark mode is used by 1 in 4 people but is officially not an accessibility feature. It can be useful when you don't want to use bright light. If you implement a color scheme and incorporate a dark mode from the beginning, it is relatively easy to implement. Via Abra Academy we publish a series of training videos about digital accessibility. Our goal is to make apps accessible for everyone.
